Hadstorm,
The best thing I ever read on this site, (I'm sorry I don't remember who said it so I can't give credit) was to do mods that are tailored to your needs.
The locked/lifted rigs are awesome and we all want them, but mod your truck based on what makes your life easier. The ultimate goal is that over time everything comes together to best fit your needs....so unfortunately we can't really answer the question of what would be most beneficial to YOU.

Well said, do what you want! Example for me an extra battery, stealth rack, and light bar are far from anything I would ever need!

My favorite mods are JBL sub swap, led gauge cluster, lift and tires!

Others may be snorkels, bumpers, 20's, flux capacitors, or even lowering!

AFM dry filter for the win. Minimal maintenance, no oily mess to deal with. Coming from a former k&n enthusiast.

lol.. on both... ima get ten cans then.. and i have a habit of a few periods after i say something.. see.. as far as the v8, i wanted one but the deal i got couldnt be passed up, and im very happy with the power with the v6... i already smoked my brother in his crown vic and my other brothers qx4.. the engine sounds like a sports car. quick response, chirpin if i hit it hard.. im very satisfied with the v6.. but i will be doin the air filter mod..

Just wondering if you ever did the HCF mod, I've been reading a lot of people with V8's very happy with the outcome but heard it doesn't do much for the V6. Thoughts?

I know you didn't ask me, but I didn't notice a thing removing the hcf. I already had a K&N filter so I don't know if that would make a difference, but my biggest improvement has been replacing that stock, highly restrictive exhaust.

+1 for doing the mod's that fit your need / use.

Also some good advice I read somewhere on here (sorry, can't remember source to give credit), is to have a long term plan for the mod's you want to do ... helps the individual mod's come together nicely in the end. :banana:

WHat did you end up replacing it with? Also what were the benefits and what did it run you?

My whole system was shot. So I bought doug thorley headers had a shop install them and make me a custom dual 2.5" exhaust with a dual in/dual out magnaflow race series muffler. No catalytic converters since I don't have emissions. I also had to get the URD O2 simulator to get rid of the code. Install was $1300, $750 for headers and $150 for the URD O2 simulator. Not cheap but I gained TONS of horsepower.

I just did the same, but made the mistake of going with "natural white" from Super Bright LEDs for the domes, and they're dimmer than stock. I really like the others though. What color did you use?

Installed Mictuning USB ports in the center console. About an hours work.
Tapped power from the cigarette lighter (10 Amp) which I never use anyway.
One has the voltmeter which is a nice feature. Each is rated at 2.1 amps so no threat of popping the lighter fuse.
Chose blue as I'll be doing the dash lighting shortly.

TRS only offers 5k in their LED bulbs. They feel 10x brighter than stock!

So its not really a mod however easy work on the weekend for a nice improvement would be cleaning the Throttle Body(TB) and spraying some seafoam.

For myself after cleaning the TB and using seafoam I felt a noticeable difference in acceleration and it just sounds cleaner. And going off the gauge for MPG It went up +1 in city and highway.

Is the consensus that removing the HCF may not actually help, but certainly doesn't hurt anything?

I'll pull it if there's even a slight chance for a benefit, as long as there's no downside.

I can't see where it would be a downside. It does nothing other than restrict flow. I have done this on a v6 and a v8 without any negative effects. any positive effects were no noticeable enough for me to care.

Well, they aren't REALLY mod's...
and I didn't do them on the weekend...
But I recently
1- swapped out a new cabin air filter (what a difference!)
2- created my own doggie barrier (two metal shelf dividers for $10 and six zip ties)
3- replaced my shift knob with something more personalized (I work in radio and had an old microphone. Cost me $1 for nuts and washers)
