We got a another puppy Friday evening and set off to take him out wheeling and hiking to get him started with it before the winter strikes. Due to the recent flooding in the area we had no idea what was still accessible nearby and eventually found out the answer was....not much

While cruising highway 14 a truck loaded with rocks let one loose going the other way.

glass came into my lap and all over the dash. It just about came through and would have if not for the membrane that I can now push back and forth with my finger.

We pressed on and eventually found an area accessible with the help of the handy dandy fun treks books.

We ended up running Pickle Gulch, Moon, and Gamble Gulches near Rollinsville. We randomly met a much older local couple on the trail with a Jeep on 37s. They offered to show us the area and we tagged along most of the afternoon. After the trails were completed they offered us to join them for dinner at a local restaurant. We accepted their offer and had some great food and conversation. When the bill came they insisted that they pay for it!
It was a pretty interesting and very enjoyable day.

Anyway here are wheeling companions (both Siberian Huskys). Both are puppies in the pictures. The female "Kimber" (black/white) is now 10 months. The male "Parker" (brown/red/white) is 3 months.

I went to Denver yesterday to get leather interior and door panels for my runner. I was surprised that there were minimal rocks and debris on the roads from all the rain we have had lately.

We need to get together sometime and hit some trails. I am limited to what I can do though. For now I have no lift, stock size street tires and a limited slip rear. I'm not familiar with any trails north of Colorado Springs with the exception of the rainbow falls area. I need to explore more!

Indeed man I've been thinking the same thing.

I'll be in Colorado Springs soon! I'm actually usually in town about once a month visiting family there but have been slacking lately. I'll let you know when I'm headed that way next and I'll bring the rig. I have yet to wheel that far south.

Congrats on the new pup! I'm new to Denver as well, officially moved in in about a week. My runner is stock equipped for now but if a easy wheeling get together happens keep me informed!

Awesome build. I also just picked up my Runner this year, I got orders from Fort Bragg, NC to Warren AFB, WY and figured the 2wd PreRunner wouldn't cut it. Thanks for name dropping some trails / spots, I look forward to checking out more of Colorado as time goes by.

If you ever want to go slightly larger in tire size, but not a full 35", I would consider getting 17" wheels. There are a handful of "in-between" sizes available for 17's that you can't get in a 16.

285/75r17 = 34"
305/70r17 = 34"
295/70r17 = 33.5"

A few companies make a 295/75/16=34" and a 305/70/16. Falken makes both sizes

Well... tried to get some more wheeling in this weekend and due to the flood damage we experienced recently nobody was quite sure what was accessible still. Well pretty much nothing.



Stacking rocks wasn't gonna cut it.

So we tried a couple other routes and found similar sights. It got pretty depressing for a while but we marched on and finally found a way onto Bald Mountain. The sun was setting when we reached it (we left town at 10am) and we finished in the dark but by golly we were determined.

First time really wheeling in the dark and snow.



Well that pretty much concludes the wheeling season up in the Poudre Canyon just west of Fort Collins. Most of the trails gates are shut and those that "never close" are shut by the sheriff due to flood damage. I also highly doubt those roads will be repaired anytime soon.

Splurged today and bought some goodies to dress up my bumpers on that glorious day when they finally arrive. And stuff for a few other little projects in the meantime. My ordered/waiting install section just grew a lot.

Beautiful 4runner man. Very nice set of mods going on. I'm quite jealous of the $700 gen 2 charger score.... I need to find one for that price. My heavy pig needs all the help it can get haha. Looking forward to seeing the next stage with the pending items waiting for install.

This big ball of rope and stuff showed up on my porch today.

I ordered it used as an Amazon warehouse deal. I never bought anything used from Amazon before and was a little skeptical about what condition it might be in. It said "Very Good" and was several hundred dollars less than "New" so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Well what arrived was brand new! Never opened box, never installed rope, never opened hardware.... Either they sent me a new one not realizing I chose the used or it was some sort of unopened return deal. I went and checked my bank statement and I was charged the used price so hey!

Not gonna complain.

Thanks man I will. I plan to install the mount next week at work.

I got the mount because my original rubber trans mount flexes so much on hard bumps that it allows the t-case to tap the top of my Bud-Built belly skid. I didn't want to shim the skid down and I'm sure this mount will stop that much movement.

I also plan to add a 4.7 Marlin Crawler Taco Box in the somewhat near future so it will help support that extra weight... but that's getting a little ahead of myself.

I'll update with my thoughts about everything as I get it on.

I'm just trying to keep up with awesome builds like yours man. I'd really like to make it down wheeling in NM someday!

Thanks, I definitely avoid certain things when I'm out by myself because I fear getting stuck without a winch and also I've run across people stuck before and this would have made helping much easier.

I now am kind of afraid I'll just get myself in bad situations because I'll be under the impression of "oh ya I can just winch out". Guess I'll have to keep my nearest attachment points in mind before driving into bottomless pits and such.

I just went and checked out that trans mount, and damn if its not for 5-speeds only. I need to get under there and see if i can fab up something similar to shore up my setup.
