Ebay 5vz-fe Turbo

I think the manifolds - especially the turbo side can be fortified with more braces.

Is it really cheap?

Made in china. As long as it was made to meet minumum specifications, it should be fine. Look at your Iphone.

As far as the AEM FIC. The TRD deal is also a piggy back system.

From what i read on the FIC. It can control an additional 6 injectors. Run a turbo with this and the URD fuel rail.

I kind of feel I started this derail. Again controlling boost with throttle is not easy. You can be trying to climb a hit, with low throttle and the turbo starts too spool and you then get more power and start to spin. Its not easy to rock crawl with a turbo even at low boost. The small turbos hit hard and thats not good for traction. Ask the fwd honda kids. For offroading the SC is still the better option. this kit is to make power.

The best option for low end grunt is the 2uz-fe.

If the turbo is dialed in right, there will be minimum lag. I so want to do this but it will need an auxiliary controller and I'm not sure what to do.,,,

Is it cheap!?! YEAH! a good turbo by itself will set you back over $1k.
This kit has all that custom exhaust AND an intercooler.

And I totally agree with JayRolla re: building turbo boost with throttle while trying to drive obstacles...

this has nothing to do with lag.

Turbo for the strip and S/C or "no replacement for displacement" for offroad.

Ummm....

Does anyone else wonder why this is so ridiculously cheap????
:bolt:

Two reasons. As mentioned already, it's lower quality parts that are made in China by slave laborers, and the markup on a lot of the premium turbo kits on the market can be astronomical.

In addition to the final vendor doing substantial markups, each individual component of the kit has been marked up at least once in it's life between the factory, the kit compiler, and the end vendor. Some of the markup goes to the manufacturer and the kit designer/compiler to recoup the cost of R&D, because R&D is rarely ever cheap, except for those that let other companies work through all of the R&D, and then copy their kits.

Just to be clear, I'm not against companies marking up their products and making a ton of money, I'm just stating a fact that explains why this turbo kit can be so cheap. Made in China, and low markup, high volume selling.

I'm very tempted to drop my supercharger for this kit because:
A: Intercooler!
B: no more belt slip and no more parasitic drag to run the boost.
these alone should net you a sizable amount of power over the supercharger at the same boost levels ~8psi.
My concerns lie entirely with the crappy turbo the kit comes with.
Somewhere someone mentioned tossing the turbo they sell with this kit and I agree. that thing will fail soon or sooner, there are many documented cases of this exact turbo failing.
However a real garrett gt35 is $800..
Singtoe mentioned the aem fic, I have one of these and I think it would handle the turbo kit with zero problems as long as you get it wired up correctly. I bought a pnp harness from tokensolutions and it works perfect. You would also need some bigger injectors. again; TS sells pnp injectors for 5vz's up to 1000cc's.
If you go to cxracing and you wanted to just buy the manifolds and the intercooler you'd be at $1050. then pick your poison for turbo and bov. plus fuel management.
I say go for it, I think i'm going to bark up this tree next spring after taxes.

damn all thsse turbo threads lol..even tho I just dropped $$$ for my 7th injector kit I'm thinking of ditching the supercharger and going rear turbo lol.

I believe that token Solutions is selling the same kit as what is on EBAY.

Same price and picture.

So get the kit and then sell the cheap turbo that comes with it and get a garret. You could probably make a relative profit on it since you would be selling it as an individual part.

Or just buy manifold, downpipe, etc. you don't have to buy the whole kit... you can omit the turbo and provide your own.

I think after the downpipe? Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like they deleted the first catalytic converter? I say "first" because it's where the first cat for Cali emissions vehicles would be.

The kit looks good, the turbo, not so much. I'm pretty sure that's a no name chinese made turbo. If anything I would contact CXracing and see if they would sell the setup without the turbo.

A small amount of turbo boost can actually increase engine longevity. It doesn't work as hard to create the same hp output, thus reducing the need to rev to achieve the same results as an N/A motor. Turbo's aren't new people, semi trucks use them and see a million miles or more before a rebuild, so saying you won't install one because it decreases engine life means you're plain misinformed.

All hot air...there's no way you can argue that adding extra pressure to engine internals is better for a high mileage engine than a lower gear ratio.

somebody school me here; what if you put a small turbo on, or a supercharger, making 5lb of boost. what tuning or fuel mods are required? on dealer optioned s/c'd tacos or 4r's did they re-tune and do fuel mods or did they bolt it on and call it good??

Dialing in turbos is not as easy as you think. You get lag from boost leaks. I owned turbo cars from age 15-28 and I battled boost leaks the entire time. Boost leaks at every coupler, weld, throttle body seals, gaskets, intake manifold, injector seals, pcv valve, turbo to manifold. WHen you add turbos to cars that dont have one it becomes a huge PITA to keep it running perfect. I could not imagine one on an offroad vehicle. It would just be that much harder. I was in my garage every weekend running boost leak tests on my compressor trying to fix them all.

It can help the life of the trans because it works less but I agree, no way will any boost help a motor last longer.
