Eclipse AVN 5435 question

Hello.
I'm very interested in replacing my HU with the eclipse AVN5435. Will there be any problems with using the existing/factory speakers, amp, and sub? The guy at the local car stereo shop says I needed a wiring harness that they cannot get. If I don't use this harness I will lose some speakers.
Anyone with an AVN5435 unit with any thoughts/comments/help?

My SR5 had the base radio so it dropped right it. From what I have seen from other comments with the JBL systems it is much more work. You will loose the center speaker and sub and wires will need to run from the eclipse to the speakers.

A much better solution for the JBL upgrade is to buy the Toyota Nav from oemvalue.com.

If you search on nav there are many detailed threads on the conversion.

Thanks for your reply GlennD...I'll look into the Toyota Nav. I don't really want to loose the center channel or sub from the system.

I thought that even with the Toyota Nav you would loose the center speaker and sub-woofer. That's why I have yet to go the navigation route.

Hmmm...can anyone with the Solara Nav confirm this? If this is the case I've got to look for another solution. I too don't want to loose function of any speakers.

I have the JBL 10 Speaker system in my '03 4R and I swap it out for the Solara Nav system works great. sound may be better than before.

All speakers work great, only thing missing is I lost the 6 CD changer my old HU had, but can live without that.

The Nav is just great, I will never be with without one from now on.

Unless they have changed with the radio in the 05, again my original was a 10 speaker (digital audio) JBL

So the Solara Nav is just plug and play with the 10 speaker JBL? You can still use your center speaker and sub without any extra work?

Exactly. Ccenter speaker and woofer work as well or better than with the original HU by simply plugging in the Nav unit but to get full navigation functionality there is a bit more that has to be done:

You will have to add a connector and connect the speed and direction sensor inputs from the vehicle..

As well, in order to hear the voice guidance, you will have to install a separate amplifier/speaker somewhere under the dash.

These procedures are not hard but will require some time and effort and have been flogged to death on this board with lots of valuable input from those that went before you.

If you do a search , I am sure you can find everythng else you need to know. to complete the istall.

Now I remember what turned me off from it. It's like you said, that you have to install an aux speaker for the voice guidance. I guess that's really not that bad but at least now I remember why I haven't done it yet.
