Eclipse AVN726e Install Question

I also just got this nav system; does anyone know how to run the back-up camara and where does the GPS antena go?
The installers for the AVN726e placed the gps antenna on the dash. For my Kenwood DNX6140 I placed the gps & xm antennas behind the radio in the dash. I talked about that a few posts back. Read the thread for more info.
Backup camera, since I wasn't the installer I can't really say much about it. Looks good though. I can take pictures of the camera installed.

So I was playing with my Kenwood DNX6140 today and figured out that my steering wheel can in-fact change the presets on the radio from the steering wheel controls! :dancin:
To my surprise, I actually learned something from reading the manual!
I found out that the DNX6140 is able to tune the frequencies in different ways.
It can either....
1) tune manual (ie..102.7 -> 102.9) (Manual)
2) tune to the next good reception station that is available (Auto-1)
3) tune to the next preset that you have programmed in. (Auto-2)
Well, I left the radio in AUTO-2 and now I am able to use the steering wheel controls to change presets on the radio. :thumb3:
I'll see I can can do the same thing on the AVN726e when I get home tonight. :biggrin2:

Hey all, just an update on my purchase of the AVN726e. The install went pretty well. The dash and center console was a breeze to take apart including the panel under the steering wheel. What took me the most time was identifying which wires from the 4runner harness went to their corresponding wires on the AVN harness. So after it was all installed, everything worked like a charm. The sounds are great on the stock 6 speaker system. The screen is clear and the touch panel is real sweet. I got the steering controls to work and the was rather painless. I made a small mistake by not grounding the ground wire from the truck's steering control wiring, nothing would work until I did that. So the whole process was rather painless, yet time consuming since I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to sniping wires in the vehicle! LOL
I still have a few concerns to address. The GPS works pretty good, however there are things I'm trying to figure out. Usually when I've started the vehicle up and the NAV screen comes up, it says something about the GPS signal is lost. I enter my destination anyway and it plots it out, yet it acts like it doesn't get signal. I notice the little icon of the satellite dish has a bunch of signal bars that appear dim, and then after i enter my destination they light up. I mounted the antenna in the little space behind the stereo underneath the dash. I wonder how much it impedes the signal or perhaps it's due to my current surroundings (i'm in the thick of the woods in AL at the moment). Also, I've noticed that sometimes it will tell me I've arrived at my destination, yet it's considerably further down the road than my destination is on. Not sure if that's due to the street numbering or what. In one case I was on the right road, yet I had to drive another mile or so to actually "arrive at my destination". Anyone have any experience with this?
The other thing is the Bluetooth mic. Two people I've tested the system with (using an iPhone 3GS) have said I sounded like I'm in a tunnel. Again not sure if it's due to my surroundings and poor reception. I have the mic on the driver side sun visor point towards me. It sounds fine coming in, so I'm not sure what gives. I suppose I'll continue testing. I did really enjoy the bluetooth audio streaming! It practically makes the iPod cable useless! OH, and it works with the Pandora App too! w00t!!
Other than that the system is fantastic. So excited to see a nice piece of gear get installed in such a loved vehicle. I hope it meets and exceeds my expectations for years to come. Oh yeah, I would eventually like to get XM on there. Will the Sirius kit work the same or is it a separate kit? Thanks for all the info, I really appreciated it!
Last note to Lowpro, that AVN76d that was installed in your wife's vehicle, the mounting kit in her's is made by Toyota or Fujitsu-Ten specifically for the 4runner. Apparently they use to come with the Tom-tom systems on the Urban Runner. I wonder how they came about getting that one. I've read that people are dying to find it yet the dealers can't locate it or list it. Maybe you can inquire with your dealer what part # it is, and if they have any more! Anyway, thanks for the help!

You know, I found out that my wife's unit does the same thing. When you first power up the unit it'll say "GPS Signal lost" out loud but then will find the satellites in a few seconds. I don't really drive her car all that much so I haven't had a chance to play with it. I think I'll probably have to contact Eclipse and ask them about it.
Wow, being a mile off is crazy! You are no where even close to where you are looking to go. I've seen accuracy as low as 8ft in my old Nuvi660. In my Kenwood I was getting between 18ft~23ft. I'll keep an eye on the Eclipse more closely.
Side note: When I installed my Kenwood DNX6140 I placed both the gps and xm antennas behind the radio in the dash. The navi unit seems to work fine but the xm radio audio would drop out sometimes. I say it was working 90% of the time and the rest of the time it would drop the audio for sometimes 15 seconds at a time. I decided to move the xm antenna up to the dash this past weekend and the xm radio seems to work a lot better now. Almost no dropouts at all.
I was surprised that her bluetooth mic sounded as good as it did. You almost can't even tell that a call is being made from the car. They placed her mic in the headliner right next to the rear view mirror. Play with the location of it. I recall there being a thread around here where member were discussing different results from moving the mic around. Yeah, the BT streaming is pretty sweet!
My wife elected to get rid of her XM radio in her previous car. She worked only about 2 miles away before we moved and would only really have a chance to listen to 1 entire song before she got to work. She is happy with just playing the ipod now.
But yeah, the XM and Sirius kits are both separate kits. Actually what I did end up ordering (and coming today :bluejump
is the HD radio module (HDR109). Ahhh that's interesting to know. Well the radio was installed there at the dealership, so I imagine they had easier access to parts. I hope to get a chance to install the HD module maybe sometime this weekend. I'll do my best to try to locate a part number for the trim kit.
Did you install the backup camera too? I just did mine on my DNX6140 this past weekend. I think it took me twice as much time to install the camera then it did to install the radio. :lmao: But, I'm happy with the outcome.

I've noticed same thing with mine "GPS signal lost" and I'm near the city. I thing it just takes a little bit to get synched up with satellite.
The thing I do not like is that there is no time on the unit unless u initiate the Navi first.

One thing I did have a ? for you guys...does yours auto dim when lights are turned on? Or is there a way to choose "night" like my old model had?

I asked my wife and she said, "yes. The background goes from white to blue"
That's just going off of what she told me. I'd have to play with it to figure out how to adjust it.
Edit: Hold down the AV button for more than 1 second and it will show you screen adjust functions.

I'm back! Over the weekend I got a chance to install the HD radio module. I snapped a few pictures of the kit. Surprise surprise it's actually a METRA kit!
It looks like they shaved some of the bottom lip and just glued it into place so that it doesn't move.
Take a look for yourself...

I installed the Eclipse HDR109 HD Radio module. Sounds pretty clear and I love getting the extra stations. :bluejump:

Nice looking stereo. I have one just like it in my vehicle. I also added an HDR109 HD radio tuner to it and it sounds even better. The only thing is that the tuner didn't come with the "Software Update CD-Rom". It still plays and sounds good but there are some pop-ups that the software would take care of. And that's what i am looking for. They tell me Toyota is the only ones that carry the Eclipse AVN726E so maybe they might have the software.

You can get the updated firmware from eclipse. It is "Step 1" of the map update process. If not updating the maps, just download the update, install on the eclipse and your done.
