Ecotechne roof rack GROUP BUY!!!

Finally got around to having my rack installed. Glad i actually had someone with the proper tools and knowledge to get it done though. i know i would of been frustrated with things not lining up properly. So word for word my buddy said "a few of the bolts didnt line up exactly so he redrilled them, touched up a few spots of the powder coat, and he had to get shorter metric bolts to connect the rack brackets to the truck as the other ones were too long and would of creased my headliner. All in all i love the look, love the price, but wouldnt of minded paying a little more for a rack that fit perfect as it should of and came with the proper everything to install. i even ordered the black bolts so I'm curious to see which exact bolts he's talking about. Not sure what kind of complications its gonna be to install that Denver outfitters tent and not sure which awning but I'm sure my guy will be able to figure it out for me. Jus wish it was simpler so i didnt have to rely on paying someone elseto do it

Thank you for this info! Makes decision making a bit easier. I wouldn't mind spending a bit more for "plug and play" products that wont require more drilling, touching up, etc. You sir, rock.

The reason why the rack has not lined up for a lot of people is probably because the bolts are being tighten before the whole rack is put together. The only part you want snug right from the beginning is the 4 L brackets and the rest has to be installed without tightening the bolts utill the whole rack is put together. Once everything is on you start to tighten all bolts and the rack will line up correctly.

not sure how he went about it. now that its installed it looks great, I'm gonna take some closeup pics when this crazy wind stops here in vegas and post em, i can tell the front doesnt flawlessly line up with the roof either, the left side is cut higher than the right......all in all I'm happy with it for the price. I can definitely fell the added weight driving but that was expected. would i buy it all over again? yes all in all i spent less than 1k installed. Thanks again for making the group buy happen, jus need a ladder for the rack to be complete :thumb3:

Rack arrived in Oklahoma today. It seems Ecotechne has taken the feedback on packaging and made changes to how they ship this thing! No bent pieces and looks like no hits to the powder coat. Installing Sunday and can't wait.

One bit of feedback, DHL waybill stated 22 lbs instead of 90 lbs. Resulted in DHL having to truck it from DFW to Oklahoma instead of air freight for some reason. Just a small glitch but still got it today.

Anyone know how hard it is to install lights after installing the rack? Easier to do all at once?

No problem. It pretty easy to install lights afterwards. I installed mine afterwards by loosening the rear 4 bolts where the rack fastens to the l brackets, the took off the 4 bolts in the front where the rack fastens to the L brackets, then simply prop it up with foam or something that is sturdy but won't scratch the roof and begin installing the lights.

I'm really digging these steps. I wouldn't run them on my other rig just because I do encounter boulders when I go wheeling but on this rig I'm going to be running them. I like that I was able to take off the ugly body kit Toyota had on the 10-13 models and these steps almost cover the whole area. I will buy the front caps to make it look cleaner.

Using the mounts that come with the Maxtrax, and two existing holes on the cross bars, I had to drill 2 holes and makes two small extension plates.

At the moment I don't have a picture without the maxtrax on, so this picture may explain.

The tallest part are the mounts themselves, which are around 6".

I see here, none of the cross bars are positionable. Like the factory roof bars can slide down the track. My suggestion, retool the top rail of this with several more holes, or make slots/elongated holes, so you can slide the crossbar where you need it. Therefore, fit perfect for maxtrax or other items. Just my 2 cents. I'm in the market and leaning towards this. I'm sure I could fab up something to make them adjustable. I'd be interested in a bare metal option as well.

I finally unwrapped everything today. It looks great with a few rough cuts. But I don't see any instructions. The only paperwork I found was from the Venezuelan engineer that put together the customs package. Rorck, do you have something that you could email to me?

yea, for the 14+ hey will run right under. For my self I will just getting the plastic cap that the 14+ cones with right behind the front tire. It's a plastic piece.

I'm working on getting a diagram together. But for the meantime. Here are some simple instructions.

Bolt on the L brackets(small ones in the front bigger ones on back) firmly.

Then sides go on, followed by front faring, rear faring and then cross bars and tray. MAKE SURE THESE ARE ALL PUT TOGETHER LOOSELY. Once all the pices are in place tighten firmly and the rack will become rigid.
