ECT and Thermo Time Switch the same?

I was told the hot exhaust pipe is caused by running to rich. It is referred to as an ECT and I was told it was pricey to replace. When I search ECT I get a 30 dollar brass part. After digging some more I found a Thermo Time Switch which is supposed to do the same thing as an ECT was described to me as. It is 150 bucks and I found two on parts geek. One is for a 22RE and the other is not listing an engine. I have a 3vze. Anyone know the exact name of this sensor or have a link to where they sell them? I am going to try and find a site to get codes from the jumper tonight and see if it throws any but never done it before so not sure if I will be doing it right.

They look the same from pics. Nothing comes up when I search for ECT sensor. This will be the last part I throw at this before I give up and buy a commuter and wait on a tech to be available.
