Electric Fan Into Airbox......

Results are here.

First run was with no fan I guess tires were cold as rear tires spun which was really weird, so I did another run and it was even slower...

So the program says....
Without Fan
0-60 10.69
Max Speed 80
Max HP 121

With Fan
0-60 9.48
Max Speed 83.8
Max HP 136

Now I wouldn't take believe the program 100% but 15HP is a big difference..

This was with ECT Button on.

you should of made a website and do before & after images & vidoes of this project :)

I would love to see what happens :trophy:

I might do some kind of write up, I thought about it but this thing still isn't in final set up.. Only difference is its got a switch on it right now. And there isn;t much to it. Mount Fan behind deckplate and wire it up..

I really am not sure if I will keep this on my 4runner.. If it gets me 2MPG I might, however I doubt it. If I would actually keep this on anything for its hp gains it would be some ricer or my gf;s 1.8t beetle....

However I did find something already being sold. I have a feeling its not as powerfull as mine but its called a electric supercharger. And its alot cleaner it looks like a coupling you put behind the Maf sensor..

I don't know where this may go but it works... As far as HP..

I take it these are back to back?
That's good but your previous (initial) trial run without fan came in at:
"0-60 MPH: 9.05 sec
Max Speed: 84.5 MPH
Max Acceleration: 0.51 G's
Peak Horsepower: 135 HP"
So you actually did better initially without the fan. What were the conditions or differences between that initial run and the latest 2 runs? Can you do some more back to back runs fully warmed up (more than 10 miles at speed on the tires) to replicate real world driving. Can you take a long term look at your mileage (tank to tank comparison with and without fan?)
Hoping to see some more positive results before I go hacking up the airbox.

Although this only adds 3-5 small holes I don't recomend everyone trying untill I test it some more..

I did notice that the first run was faster that day I did it before I put the fan on. I cant explain why other than, the air may had been cooler the engine warmed up and ect button not pushed in..

I will do more back to back tests to make sure I get an average.

As for now Im gonna keep it in and see what my mileage does. I was averaging 17 mpg every fill up. However thats a mix of highway and city..

when I first bought the truck I drove from mississippi to louisiana all high way about 75 and got 22.5 mpg..

i was avoiding pictures because its still temporary.. fans only held on by 2 bolts which is enough instead of 4 and wiring is straight from battery to switch to fan to chassy. but i suppose ill get some pictures.

I did drive it today a bit an although 25% of it was city traffic i still got 21.5 mpg which is huge... ill see what my normal driving does to my mileage

Also remember that there is a learning effect to the engine parameters. You shouldn't just switch it continuously on and off. Keep it on for a full tank, and then some, or clear the learned curve by pulling the neg battery cable when you switch it (just to get a fair baseline for the dyno runs.)

Efi relay has same effect right?

No. EFI relay only supplies power to the injection system. You need to "clear" the ECU. Once you disconnect the negative cable, your ECU will "relearn" for several miles. In some cars this may be 20 to 30 miles.

:bowdown::bowdown:Congrats. Good job I can't wait for some more feedback as you gain more experience... :bravo::bravo:

Ok I guess I will do that then. Is there a certain amount of time I should left it disconnected? I thought I remember reading in a deckplate mod write up that the the efi did the same thing. Oh well.

Actually pulling the fuse for the engine ECU does the same thing. 2 or 3 minutes, 5 max. I suggested the (-) cable because then there's no guessing and you know you've reset it. Then run for the 20 to 30 miles which also warms everything up, including the tires, while it's relearning the fan effect.

The only thing I would add to this Mod based on the way a real supercharger works and the electric ones on the Videos is some kind of reostat(spell?) that controls the fan output with throttle position causing a gradual or variable boost.

I'm in the process of testing. I don't want to make everyone think they will get drastic improvements for nothing to happen.. Or use a fan that dies after a couple hundred miles. I had good and bad results regaurding mileage but I'm starting all over. Results of mpg could have been inaccurate, not the ones I told you. There was a short in the wiring. Also I need to mount it better with metal spacers..
