Electric motor noise under dash/drivers side undercarriage

Hey all, I bought a 2003 T4R a few weeks ago. It didn't come with the owners manual and I haven't managed to purchase one yet.

There has been this sound coming from under the dash or undercarriage since I bought it.

It sounds like an electric motor. It only runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. It is not constant but comes on and shuts off every so often.

I read a post on here that mentioned that it may be the brake booster or something but nothing else ever came out of the post.

Does anyone have any ideas on what it may be, and should I go get it checked out?

Do you hear the noise and feel a vibration when braking? If so, that's the brake booster and it is normal.

I've got same thing...seemingly random whirring noise behind dash. Yesterday in Park I pressed and released the brake to see if was the brake booster. Every 4th pedal depression, the whirring started. Without pressing brake, theres no whirring.

I've noticed this noise for quite a few months. Brakes still work, no fluid loss....so nothing requires fixing!

No, there is no vibration when I press the brake. It just seems like it is excessive. I drove around the city today and the motor seemed to kick in every few minutes.

Do you have X-REAS? I just got mine, but I've read that it pumps fluid between the cross-linked shocks. Maybe it's something with that?

it's likely a servo motor with worn contacts. my noise occurs behind the steering wheel area and there are a few of them back there.

i had it diagnosed by a toyota tech. getting the noisy one swapped out here in short order. hope this helps.

I'll have to double check, but I am pretty sure I don't have X-REAS. I'll check with the dealer and see.

You can tell just by looking near the top of your shock bodies... if you see a hydraulic line coming out of the shock, you have X-REAS. There is also a line running down the outside of each frame rail with a canister-looking valve or something (still researching that) mounted on the frame rail about where the front and back doors meet. I've only had this for a couple of days, so I have a lot to learn!
