Electrical issue

My 12v "cigarette" lighters don't have any power running to them, however my 120v outlets work perfectly fine. I thought maybe I had to then the inverter on to activate the outlets, but they won't turn on. None of them.

I'm not really sure what's going on. The relay works in the engine bay for the inverter, as well the kick panel fuse panel doesn't have any irregularities, and the 15amp fuse for fhe outlets is in good shape.

My next course of action is to see if there is power at the fuse block (tomorrow)

Any thoughts?

its going to be hard for me to diagnose, because this is the first time in the 2 1/2 years I've owned this thing that I've tried to use the power ports, and I'm now discovering none of them work

there is a 15amp fuse in the drivers footwell for the ports, and there is 80amp relay in the engine bay for the inverter. i was thinking that the power ports would have a relay as well but i can't find anything. the owners manual has a diagram explaining what each fuse complements on the circuit - but I'm kind of lost.

Hi Marshall,

You said that the 120V inverter still works... Check 'All Three' of your 12V Power outlets because according to the diagram, they're all on the very same 15A fuse; which seems strange that the 12v sockets would all go out, but not the inverter! I guess it's possible that one or two of the 12v sockets could've become disconnected locally i.e. behind the socket housing... Here's the data sheet, take a look:



The RED arrow (above) represents the 120V outlet (rear). Let us know what you find out... just curious!

Thanks for the diagram. None of the outlets have current, but like I said before - both the front and rear 120 100/400w outlets have current and work fine

Hey Marshal,
I'm sure you've thought of this already, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case! You sure its not the device you're plugging into the outlet? Although I haven't noticed anything that hasn't worked in my 4R yet, its possible that the pin isn't making full contact with the center tab inside the outlet, or the device has something blocking it from fully connecting inside the outlet.

Ignore if you've already tested the center conducter in the outlet with a meter or light tester already!!!
 
First step is to REPLACE the fuse. You can't always tell when they are blown by looking at them. Do that and we will go from there. :D

Okay, assuming that the 15A outlet fuse is good, evidenced by fact that the 120V P-outlet works, you've got to verify the ground-side using a v-meter or test light with a KNOWN power source i.e. dome light, D/S-fusebox; something may have happened to the ground source.

Looks like it was the fuse after all. Make that, fuses.

The fuse that was in there looked fine. I broke the plastic off of it and found a break by the spade that wouldn't have been able to see otherwise. I don't own a multimeter so I wasn't able to check for continuity without a power source. Second fuse a put in must have been a bum fuse because it gave the same result. Third fuse is working just fine!
