Elocker modification information needed

I've been fortunate enough to come across an E locker rear diff I want to put in my 97 T4R, problem could be the carrier is out of an 09 FJ. the small amount of research I've done so far is 1: I can swap my ring and pinion into the 09 carrier. 2: i need an E locker housing, or i modify mine to accept the carrier 3: I have to modify the wiring to the actuator so that it doesn't run constantly in any direction. My main concern is that the stud holes on the carrier out of the 09 FJ appear to be 1-2mm wider(the pattern) than the carrier currently in my rig(at least when comparing gaskets) Has anyone swapped a 4th gen T4R rear housing into a 3rd gen T4R? they look incredibly similar, but I haven't measured either.

Are the gear ratios the same? Otherwise your front wheels will turn at a different speed. Search the forum on how to check ratios, basically jack up one wheel, spin it 20 times and get another person to count how many times the drive shaft goes around. Divide by 10. It will probably be 4.1

yeah thats why I have to put my ring and pinion in the 09 carrier, because the carrier i acquired is a 3.73 ratio. The more I think about a 4th gen housing swap, the more I want to make it happen, going to make some measurements over the next couple days, will post findings. I'm fortunate enough to have all the service data for Toyota's that a normal person could ask for, but haven't yet found exact measurements between axle housings.

Based no that information, I'd be looking at selling that locker and finding one that will fit the 3rd gen, they're not that hard to find.

I like that idea, thing is probably worth close to a 4 digit number, even used. but rear disc brakes would be super fancy.

Yeah, I haven't looked that hard, but they don't seem to be just laying around. Not at a reasonable price.

I guess that's a rather fluid term.

WE've 'found' two of them so far, first a complete rear axle for $500 that my wife swapped onto her '96, and then a replacement diff when she blew it up on a tough climb. I think that cost about the same, even though it was just the center part.

Sell the locker that doesn't fit for similar money, and use that money to buy one that comes a lot closer to fitting. I think most of the bolt circle is the same, just a couple of studs on the actuator side need to move, plus some notching of the axle housing opening.
