Any way to trick the computer into thinking the emergency brake is set? I essentially want the parking brake light on, without it being engaged.

My intention is to be able to turn them off and on at will. Without having to go to the dealership, or hook it up to a computer to do so.
 
Ahh yes, and modifying your vehicle to "trick" the computer is a much better option.

Would probably take a whopping 10 minutes out of your day. Just figured I'd give you an option that wouldn't create a bright red light staring you in the face constantly.

Well, I didn't ask how to turn off the DRL, did I? As a matter of fact I've already done this twice at the dealer.

Quit jacking my thread.

Easy brother. I'm not jacking. I interpreted this as "I want to be able to turn my DRLs off." It's doable at the dealer, and you don't have to modify any wiring/switches.

You didn't divulge any further, just going off of information that I have. Trying to help.

I'm sure you could rewire them to run off of a switch on their own independent circuit. Shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Ok now that you have your answer I'm going to jack your thread...

Why do people disable DRLs? I just don't get it! The only possible reason I can see is wanting to be stealthy but other than that what the purpose?

Especially since the DRL on our 4Runners isn't even a real DRL(like other vehicles that have separate head lamps for the DRL) they're just parking lights.
 
yeah bad thing is someone looking for info on how to service the parking brake will stumble onto this thread and find nothing to do with servicing the parking brake and ask why are these guys talking about DRL's

also, do the DRL's even go off when the parking brake is set, on the 4runner?
i know MOST other cars work this way, but our highlander does NOT.

if the parking brake is on BEFORE you start it, the DRL's stay OFF. but if its already running, and set the brake, nothing happens.

On later model 4th gen yes, but I know my 03 doesn't. Not sure what year that started.

I don't care what you call it but the OP isn't wrong for calling it an emergency brake. There is a reason its a strictly mechanical system controlled independently from the main brakes. Plus why would you need a brake solely for parking, thats what "Park" in your transmission is for. But say your transmission was to fail (ie an emergency ;):) you still have the "whatever you wanna call it" brake holding the vehicle. As I said, I don't care what you call it but its as much an emergency brake as it is a parking brake.
