My suggestion is to to REI and talk to one of the rep they'll load you up. REI stuff are top notch and they have very knowledgeable personnels.

For basic survival all you need is fire and water. The key to survival is make it easy for others to find you... For extended survival if you are that kind then you definitely need a gun...

REI is where we get all of our stuff. I have a life-time membership there.

Yes, to "survive" all you need is fire and water, but our intent was to turn a life-threatening survival situation into "roughing it" and make sure we come out OK. I always off-road with my girlfriend, and my #1 priority over anything else is making sure she comes back safe from every trip.

Before I bought my membership, they would harass me nonstop everytime I checked out. The first guy told me he moved, left all of his gear with his friends, then bought a full set of new gear when he moved out here. He said he got a dividend of $6,000 the following year.

I had no idea REI employees (young ones at that) made enough to re-purchase $60K of gear because they just left it with their buddies. (The return dividend is 10%)

Glad to see that ya all like REI. I haven't got a 6k dividend yet hehe... but the cost of the membership usually pay off in one purchase anyway....
