Emergency Help Needed

Over the past month, I have had new exterior paint color change, new leather installed, new Bilstein 5100 at 2.5" front, 2" rear Daystars and new 17" -12mm offset wheels with Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws put n (that was today). Everything took waayyyy longer than it was supposed to. I have not had my T4R for the last 4 weeks.

Well, later today, when I was supposed to FINALLY pick it up, the shop calls me and tells me that the front tire rubs on the rear part of the fender well where the body seam is rubbing badly.

So now it seems I have a couple of choices:

1. Down size the tires to 265/70R17. I know this would work, but I really like the larger tire look.

2. Have a 1" bodylift installed and keep the tires. I BELIEVE it would work, but am not sure.

3. Downsize to 275/70R17 BFG KO2. I do not know if the 1/2" difference would be enough and hate to go to all that time a cost and not be sure.

I am already in a pickle with this, as momma ain't happy having to share her ride with me, especially when I told her the project would only take 10 days!

That being said, I am begging for any quick answers to this problem just so I can get whatever I need ordered by noon tomorrow so I can have it here Friday so I can get my vehicle on the road by Saturday.

I have done my best trying to find these answers since I got home an hour ago without asking questions that are on here somewhere, but I have not been able to confirm anything that I could be sure I understood enough to bet on it.

I promise I'll post pics to everything Saturday if I can just get some help here!!!

Doesn't sound like you did enough research first, that being said, be glad to give advice!

Did the shop remove the mud flaps? Probably not! Ask them, if they haven't, do that and see where you are!

If that doesn't do it, you may need to do a Body mount chop, Body mount chop - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum

You may have an issue with -12 offset wheels!

My bet, just remove the mud flaps, you may have to do a little trimming, also ask them if they have aligned it yet.

Thanks for the advice! They did remove the mud flap, but nothing on the "rear fender liner" area (don't know if I am calling it the right thing. I think, after reading this and looking up the body mount chop, that that is what it is.

I don't have access to a welder, so do you think a 1" BL would fix the issue? I can get a BL here in 24 hours and have them put it in.

Sorry about the title. All the stress of the day feels like it though.

Why not go with a 255 80 17, which is even taller than a 285 70 17? It's what I've got,.. on a negative 11 offset wheel and have no rubbing issues at all.

Body lift will do nothing at all, body mount and tire will all be in the same place! Have they done alignment? Sounds like you need a chop!

You don't have to weld the piece on, if you don't cut it too close to body bushing. I cut mine 4 years ago and haven't welded a piece there, many others have done the same.

How many times have we seen your 255/80 suggestion? Great size we all get it, not everyone may be happy with a cooper st maxx or a bfg mud. Great it works for you! Sorry to be harsh, just see you saying it all the time!

Sparky, I think I am going to take your tip and run with it. It seemed daunting at first, but now after reading it and seeing pics, it does not look bad at all.

Only question: What is between the tire and the body mount? It looks like a metal inside of the fender or something from what I remember. Here is a pic from yesterday. I am going to the shop in about 2 hours once my ride gets here.IMG_0102.JPG

With an alignment try getting the max caster allowed within factory spec and that could help you avoid the rubbing and down sizing. Even though it doesn't seem like your rubbing on the BM, the following thread explains it.

Eliminate Rub w/o BMC
 
[MENTION=133792]Atlas415[/MENTION] search Pinch weld, you can hammer it down or cut it down and that will help with an inch or so of space. Trim the plastic and hammer the pinch weld down. Should be ok.

Have you measure your tire mounted on the 4runner. I would like to know what it measure on the vehicle. I have 285/70-17. And they measure 31.5 and i dont have any rubbing issue

I have said it a few times, when it's warranted, and people ask for suggestions. I don't spam threads talking about it, only when a relevant question is asked, do I offer my auggestions, which I feel to be the best answer. Just like you did regarding cutting your body mount. We are all on the same team here man.. trying to give this guy some advice on how to fix his truck.

We had to do the body mount chop to get our 35's to fit, and that was after 7" of lift. She's all happy now!
