I don't think the OP was off the charts in asking how do I disable the GPS crap built into his truck. Maybe I am missing something.
OnStar type systems are fine for people that want it. I do not want somebody in Ohio being able to remotely control my vehicle in Colorado, thank you very much. Or for the government plotting out my every move (should they decide they want to do that).
The tin foil hat comments are amusing. If you want to have somebody with the capability to track your every move, cool. I do NOT.
That's why my cell phone has an off button, my new Trail does not have the Toyota version of OnStar and I want the choice to be or not be watched by others. And I choose not.

Turning your cell phone off does not help. You need to remove the battery also.
If your vehicle has Entune, Navigation, or XM then your expectation of privacy goes down the toilet.
The STAR system is only another one to add to the list.

I too think you guys have been way to harsh on the OP especially the idiotic comments about car theft and kidnapping. That was just downright stupid.
But here is the bad news: no matter how interesting or subversive you guys may think you are nobody and I mean nobody really cares enough to put you on any list or to waste any effort tracking you. It just doesn't work that way. Sorry.

I suppose the easiest solution for the people that don't want it would be to not buy it in the first place. If you find that the model with the features you want has it, and you still buy... well you made a choice.
Final points:
First, a lot of innocent things can sound shady if not well explained, and I think it's natural to make some assumptions until things are clarified.
Second, as others have pointed out... this is death by a thousand cuts. Disabling this system is probably almost impossible, will do nothing to increase your privacy based on every other thing that records you or your location, and I would guess lower the value of your vehicle based on the things necessary to stop it entirely, as most people down the road won't want a vehicle that has had the STAR system tampered with.
