Emergency service in my car - How do I turn it off?

he asked a question on how to disable a service on his vehicle, if you don't have an answer, STFU.
there is no call to make accusations or degrade him. grow up.

The original posts intention was seeking a way to disable the service so that it does not make its announcement. An incorrect intent was projected onto the post by someone whose knee-jerk insight was to see the post as a disclosure of bad intent through disabling technology that potentially tracks me.

Unfortunately, the rank-and-file-progressive thinking seems to dominate most people now...as if personal privacy is something that should be considers a ridiculous expectation and something we should surrender.(and again - FYI - this was not even what the post was originally about)

I guessing they are younger posters...or future Red-Guard hopefuls.

I come here for my 4Runner fix.. when people start dropping political propaganda words "rank-and-file," "progressive," etc. to define people it annoys me. I hate politics... I think both sides screw us over in different ways. If you enjoy it great, but don't try to pull people into that because they had ideas about why you might want to completely disable the STAR system on your 4Runner.

Sure there is. I don't know that he's not sitting with a stolen 4runner in a shipping container trying to figure out how to disable it. There is a very limited set of reasons to do this. Most of them are not good.

If you asked how to block emergency calls from your phone id ask the same thing.

If the response was making weird political ranting id be more concerned.

What is the emergency service in my car called (Toyota version of Onstar)?

How do I disable this and disable it in such a way that it can never transmit regardless if I have a subscription or not?

I can't read your mind or know your intent and I quoted your first post here so you can see what it says. I am not going to parse words here but disabling it to never transmit does not mean silencing the "voice" of that unit to me. It means disabling it to never transmit anything - the data, the vehicle location, everything.

Now to the second part of your last post:
It is ridiculous for you or anyone to expect personal privacy in today's world if you expect to use and benefit from today's technology. If you eschew this tech then maybe you would have some expectations of privacy.

I have privacy when I am on my mountain bike in the woods and do not have my cell phone and emergency beacon. That is it. I'm not a progressive, I'm not a red guard nor am I young.

Now to your "voice" issue. I called my dealership and if you request it you can have the subscription cancelled. I know you do not have one but if you get a voice then you apparently do. I would call Toyota and have them undo what they have done. That will turn off the voice. Anyone can still find you though.

FYI - No subscription active, have already brought it to the dealer, have called Toyota and had a Toyota engineer meet me at the dealer.

The system uses the cell phone transmitter for the system. It does not transmit through GPS or Sirius/XM.

Are you sure? Xm does backup telematics for others when cell svc isn't available. Nissan is one I know of off the top of my head. Its a 2way capable system. I don't know about Toyota but it seems reasonable that the same radio components can do the same things. Same with use of the GPS. All it needs is a transmitted serial number and it can be tracked.

I would have to be hostile in the first place, and thank you for your suggestion about my critical thinking skills... I have really taken it to heart. Do you have suggestions on where I could find a book or an online course to improve them? Do you yourself have any suggestions?

I am positive. GPS and XM/Sirius are receive only. It may take data from their services, but transmit is only via Cell.

That's a strange assumption and typical of today's progressive thinking...assume guilt before anything.

No! I don't like a 3 party vender having access to my data without me wanting them to. I do not pay for it nor have I requested it, but the service is still running. I am not provided with a way to deactivate it, therefore I will do it myself.

Oh, Jesus... as soon as someone speaks up for their privacy the progressives come out of the woodwork and start spouting bizarre anti-Republican propaganda.

A am not part of any political ideology, nor do I care who enacted the legislation....I simply do not want to be part of a service I did not pay for.

Why didn't the OP just call the Toyota's department that handles this function to let them know he is no longer paying for this service and wants it disconnected. I think that would have been the most simplist think to do. If that didn't work then proceed to the question asked. Makes me think he's not the original buyer of the vehicle or may be the guy who has actually obtained the vehicle in a manner that was not legal.
