OK, so I have an 02 4wd tr4 with about 135k on her.
My former brother-in-law who was a toyota certified mechanic said that the 440, 442 & 446 codes I had been getting was the evap canister. Paid the $400+ for the dealership one about 2 years ago now and the CEL came back on a week later (comes on every other day in the winter, but not in the summer). Needless to say, I don't talk to him much any more.
Finally broke down and took it to the dealer for a proper diagnostic. They are telling me it's an "ORV Valve" and an "accordion" hose on top of the gas tank. I can't find those parts on camelback toyota's site to order, at least not under that description. (thanks to scrap metal [I think] for pointing out the toyota owner's website on another post where it listed what they told me)
My question is: how hard is it to remove the tank and get to these parts? I've wrenched on a few things here and there (replaced my worn out suspension), but never messed with a fuel tank.
Any help or tips would be more than appreciated. Dealer wants $520 to replace the parts, says it's all labor for pulling the tank.
