End of the world Vehicles

out of curiosity.
when the "world" ends, where will you guys get your next tank of gas?

With the use of a screwdriver and a jerry can out of any gas tank I pass along the way. puncture the tank and drain.

The bigger question is how long ANY vehicle is going to be of use since with no gas supplies being replenished (refineries down, no fuel trucks supplying gas stations, etc) there is only a lifespan of a couple weeks at best for most people to use a vehicle for movement; after that it's just shelter where ever it ended up being parked.

Very nice! Details about her please. Make model engine etc. where did you get her at? A government auction? Do you mind if I ask how much you got her for? What mods did u do and how much did they set you back? Very nice man

She is a 1971 AMGeneral M109a3, used to be 6X6, but I bobbed the rear frame and the axle and put a M105 military trailer bed. The motor is a Contential Multi-Fuel inline 6 cyl, turbo charged. It will run on diesel, kerosene, old motor oil, transmission fluid, gas, or WVO with the fuel density compensator enabled. Almost the only thing it cannot run is aviation grade fuel.

I picked her up at an equpiment auction for 2k. I have more money in the wheels and tires than the truck cost! It is running 395/80R20's. It gets about 12 MPG on average. It is a convertable as well and a BLAST to drive!

These people have way too much time and money on their hands. Wonder what they could accomplish with putting that time and resources towards building something useful instead of all this mental masturbation. I just gonna say from what I've seen of who is doing this (an episode or two of that Dooms Day show on Discovery, so I think I get the gist of who these folks are)...if they would be all that's left of humanity, I'm good with not surviving.

The problem with that show that Nat Geo picked the most extreme cases...and in some episodes, the most "imbalanced" people. If they really wanted to do a good series that's actually helpful there are thousands of examples of good simple steps and ideas out there. Heck, they could easily goto some of the survival/peppers forums and get tons of good samples.

But no...that doesn't sell on TV so we are stuck with America thinking that all "preppers" are nutjobs. :cry2:

I'll just say this...for the natural EOW scenarios out there, we really don't have a viable solution. The combination of current tech limitations and how slow we are as a group to implement ANYTHING (if at all)...that we'd **** it up as a species due to lack of cooperation/consensus. The governing bodies of the world would argue us to death regarding policy and some other ideological bull****, while the corporations would complicate it trying to figure out how to make a buck off of it.

As far as the man made ones that we have control over (WOMDs, bio-weapons, etc...) I would hope that the educated and powerful people of the world wouldn't let any of them get to a point where this is even a remote possibility. That said if we got to that place perhaps we don't deserve everything this life has to offer in the first place if we can't appreciate it and nurture it.

No I bought it at an equipment auction my brother-in-law was having. That one looks like it is in pretty good shape tho!

It was just a cab and chasis when I bought it, someone had already removed the van body.

I don't think anyone here is merely fantasizing, like someone said before, Katrina wasn't fake, neither was the earthquake that caused destruction in Japan.

You would be doing yourself injustice if you didn't have a plan. Granted, if it's catastrophic enough that impaired the average human to act, that's nothing you can do about.

But if there is a slim chance you can be prepared, why the heck not? Food and water at minimum.

The only reason humanity is still in existence is because of our ancestors did this very same preparation by surviving catastrophic events. Starting with Noah building an Arc, biblical reference.

If you don't want to be prepared, again - to each is own. I would just say stop wasting your time by knocking others for wanting to be prepared .

It's not a good design Danny. Any good end of world vehicle has to have some sort of front push bar to push other cars out of the way Or be as strong as the Marauder to simply drove over other cars..LOL.

Zombies = Reality, sort of.

Of course Zombies will not walk among us but its a tongue and cheek title for a serious issue: Being prepared.

If I knew for sure that my house will flood next Tuesday, preparing would be easy. Same with any sort of disaster. The trouble is that nobody knows. So, we use Zombies as a catch all fun phrase for preparing for the worst. If one is prepared for Zombies one is prepared for pretty much anything.

Besides, how else would one answer why one "needs" a M14, HK93 AND a AR15?

I'm turning 18 in less than a month. I already have the money for my FFL and a beautiful AR-15 carbine with red dot sights.

A gun and a 4Runner; you WILL survive!

We should organize a 4Runner owner survival colony.

You won't need to be 18 or have an FFL, since there won't be anyone enforcing that during "zombies/armageddon", heheh. But yes, at least a handgun, a rifle or AR, a shottie, and tons of ammo for all three would all be nice to have.
