End of Warranty - Report

We purchased a 100k 7yr group buy here some time ago. Paid $835.00. In my case it paid for itself. I blame the very cold weather that I drive in. Here is what was replaced.

1) Left side XREAS....................... $585.00 @ 86kmiles
2) Spoiler 3rd brake light.............. $278.00 @ 70kmiles
3) Drivers side front window motor..$780.00 @ 94kmiles

So while I am glad that it proved to be a good idea, I was surprised by the repairs which were needed.

Out of curiosity, why did the spoiler need replacing?

That seems like a lot for a spoiler LED brake light replacement. I understand you have to replace the whole thing light (not the spoiler) as I did it myself. I think my dealer wanted around $150 for the part. I ended up buying mine for $20 from a guy here on the forums who removed his spoiler. Got lucky there.


What were the symptoms when your xreas failed? Was it just leaking or could you tell while driving it? My T4R has ~130k miles and the xreas is fine but I'm just curious. I'd probably get a new suspension if it failed so yeah, I might be looking for an excuse.

There were no overt symptoms of the XREAS fail. The dealer spotted the leak on a routine inspection at an oil change. The third brake light in the spoiler is an LED I priced it and it was not cheap. The XREAS was not as expensive for the one side as I thought it would be and if the other side fails I would replace it. I like the system and it works very well for me.

I just was hoping someone could see a connection between these issues, if it was the cold or something else? I am not harsh on the vehicle but I do drive in harsh environments from time to time.

It did work out for me but far more people do not have any issues which is why I was curious about my vehicle.

I'm coming to the end of my eight year warranty in December and so far have saved quite a few bucks. The dealer sold me the warranty as a courtesy, $600.00 for an extra five years. That was very nice of them. :thumb:

Over seven hundred for the replacement of a leaking water pump and almost one thousand for a replacement of a defective rear window whose defroaster stopped working.

My stereo radio's functions sometimes go a little haywire and I might have to bring that in for the service dept to take a look at.

Otherwise, and not to give any jinx's... the V8 4Runner has performed great and mechanically has been quite stellar!

It something's going to go... please let it be... BEFORE... the warranty expires!

Cause one thing I've seen about these vehicles from reading this forum, if something goes... it's usually an expensive fix.

I have low miles on mine. 2008 with 49k and warranty for another 3 years until 99k miles. I'm moving to Portland so probably be racking up miles pretty fast driving back to Seattle seeing friends and short drive to the Bay Area

Scared to lift my ride due to warranty.
