Engine Light and VSC Light On

Had the code read and it showed two codes, bad gas cap and Duty Vacuum Valve.

My question is: Will the bad gas cap cause the Duty Vacuum Valve to show a code?

Prefer to replace just the gas cap at $25.00 instead of the Duty Vacuum Valve at $100 if one is causing the other to show a code.

Answered your own question, sort of.

Replace the gas cap, clear the code(s) and see if that's it.

If the code comes back, move to step two.


The gas cap would need replacing at some point anyhow, so it's good money spent either way.


There's a thread around here about vacuum lines failing by the gas tank.

It would also help if you listed year and 4runner model !

You're right...got focused on the problem and neglected the basics.

It's a 2008 Limited with the V6 engine. Right at 120,000 miles.
