zerowkul98, as a former '06 V8 Sport owner myself, i must say from personal experience that, hands down, KDSS blows XREAS away.

I'm in the phase of having ordered my new 2010 and am awaiting delivery. May be a month or so. I'm wondering if this engine noise is a problem or whether it's limited to the few who have posted in this thread. And, ultimately, is the noise enough not to buy the car? A few of you are saying that you're under warranty, so not to worry, but I wouldn't want to buy a car going into the deal knowing there's some sort of problem that may need fixing.

so far these "complaints" (observations?) are very much in the minority. consider how few posts this thread has vs. how many owners there are... for example, at ~1500 miles, mine sounds fine.
i wouldn't let it worry you. trust me, no one knows buyer's remorse / "paralysis by analysis" better than yours truly — you should be looking forward to your new wheels.

As harper posted its a product of the parts that are used in the newer engines now....My 07 Tundra had the same dieseling sound that you guys are describing and people got all excited about it at first until they understood that it was a normal condition. I personally do not notice it as much on the 4Runner as i did in the Tundra but it is still there. Its something that some people have more of a keen ear for listening for where as others may never notice it or bother them at all. Just over 9000 on mine and engine sounds the same as it did day one....my Vin is 000647 so pretty early on build.

My previous 2006 4Runner also had the drumming noise at idle. I was disappointed that the new 2010 4Runner did the same thing, but since I knew the source of the noise I went ahead and fixed it on the new 4Runner. The noise is generated by the pulsating fuel line which then transmits pulses to the driver side wheel well and for some reason it would resonate the pulses as a drumming noise into driver side cabin area. There are 2 brackets that hold the fuel line to the wheel well that are easily accessible through the driver side wheel well opening. What I did was isolate the mounting bolt with rubber grommets that are readily available at the Home Depot. I'll get some pictures up when I get a chance and also put up some kind of write up.

Well, after posting on this forum for a few weeks, I just drove home my new Blizzard Pearl Limited from the dealer last night. Interesting, but on this new car I do hear that slight idling noise. I've heard this described as either a glitch on the new vehicles, part of the "roller rocker" system or something that can be fixed. I'd be amazed if it really is the pulsating fuel line causing the drumming noise. Did you really get this fixed with some Home Depot gadget? I'm also amazed at how some people on this forum really know their cars. What are you guys, mechanics? Isolating mounting bolts? Are you kidding? I can't isolate a light bulb from Home Depot without some service help!

I can definitely live with it. I would just be surprised that if it's a "normal" sound someone on this forum was able to fix it. I love the truck, but you know how it is when you leave a dealer, you're in tune with every sound, etc.
oh believe me i know....theres sounds i've realized are normal (like this one) rattles that i've came up with solutions for (dont ever let someone leave the pass side seatbelt twisted....the buckle will rattle against the pillar) and I dont have some of the ones that other people have (the seat popping thing from the lumbar)
i'm an aircraft mechanic, so i'm using to listening/feeling out weird noises and vibes.
compared to Jeeps, Toyota's have way less weird noises.
then of course whenever I drive our duramax, I have to readjust myself to diesel noises.

Here you go. Like I said previously this repair has worked on both my 2006 and 2010 4Runner to the point where the noise is minimal and subjectively acceptable to myself. Also, I will not be monitoring this thread since I am real busy. And, for the critic in this thread I do not have the liberty to disclose my occupation, so lets leave that there.

Thanks. I'm not sure if the noise exists on the V8 4Runners, so this fix may only apply to V6 owners.
Did the Modification but it did not help. I took it to the dealer and I test drove the truck with the mechanic. He heard the noise and then we went back to the dealership so he could look at it while I wait inside.After about 15 min. he came back to me and he said he started up 2 4Runners out back and they both did it so according to them it's normal of course.
