to rebuild or not rebuild? My 3.slow is needing some help. it's either time for a rebuild or an engine swap. I am leaning towards a rebuild, but I would be interested in making a few modifications while the rebuild is going on. suggestions? my runner is street use only, maybe with occasional mild two track.

Rebuild it and leave it stock or swap in another engine like the 3.4. The 3.0 isn't worth trying to build up.
 
A couple small things can always help but the power gains are marginal and in my opinion aren't worth the cost. The 3.0 is not a power house and never will be. For what it's worth, you can swap in a used 3.4 for the same price as rebuilding your 3.0.

I don't have the know how to do the swap, so I guess a stock rebuild is in order
 
So do some research. There are hundreds of documented 3.4 swaps all over the different toyota forums.
 
decision made...

after considerable thought and research, I have decided a rebuild is in order. the 3.4 swap is way above my skill set and I am not completely dissatisfied with the 3.0. I have purchased headers and a mild cam from Colt cams in British Columbia. Now a .20 overbore is the only other mod.

any suggestions on where to buy the rebuild kit? I've come across engbldr.com (I think that's the right name) but I'd like a review if anyone has used them.
 
I will vouch for engnbldr! I bought my rebuild kit, street rv head and 268 cam. Ted at engnbldr is the main one who guided me on my engine build. They are very knowledgeable and have spent a lot of time with me on the phone to discuss some troubleshooting on some blow by I was getting. Plus, when I originally built the engine I ordered some over sized bearings for the crank. I ended up buying a new crank instead of having my original one machined. He sent me some new crank bearings (shipping on his dime) without asking me to pay for them. He only asked that I sent him the over sized bearings back to him, all done on trust. They are excellent people and will take very good care of you!

Edit: It's also a small family ran business which I can appreciate!
 
I thought about getting this Toyota 3VZE 3 0L V6 Engine Hi Pro 190HP 210FTLBS | eBay
If you research, you can find actual dyno results that prove the 190 HP. I also found a couple guys sauing they got over 190 with port & polish.
Im sure headers, high flow cat/muffler & fresh air intake would help get these #'s or slightly above. (just cant remember)

I sure you could show the specs to your machine shop & get similar head mods....

I almost bought one of those engines but went with a stock reman unit after reading the warranty fine print. It may be a great engine but I had my doubts about the durability and didn't want more issues sooner than later.
 
thanks for all the advice guys. I am hoping to start the rebuild at the end of june, just waiting on the shop to have the time.
