Engine swap journey begins!

Almost have it back together but I don't have a hose for the power steering pump?

What am I missing?

Which manifold/throttle body did you use? The early motors use a mechanical PS idle-up and the '99+ uses an electrical idle-up. That was one of the electrical differences noted earlier - the '99 has the plug for the PS pump instead of the vacuum line.

It's alive..... IT'S ALIVE!

Only issue is a high idle. No CEL no funny noises, nothing. It runs sooooo good, super smooth and noticeably better than my old engine.

I'm exhausted. More tomorrow.

I'll post pictures tomorrow but the only difference I could see between the two manifolds was on the back drivers side. There was a T fitting on my old manifold that wasn't on the donor engine. I swapped the T fitting and hooked it up.

The only issue I'm having with the new motor is a high idle (1600 rpm) but I haven't actually drove it around. The tranny works fine as I engaged all gears but Ive had a few cocktails tonight and probably shouldn't go on a test drive.

I'll report back tomorrow.

I'm very happy that the new motor fired up instantly, sounds crazy smooth/good and nothing is leaking or making any awful noises. To me, that is a WIN!

So I'm guessing I have a vacuum leak, thats why I have a high idle but...

Does the ECU need a few driving cycles to learn the idle? I've had my battery disconnected before for several days and I don't remember it having to learn how to idle again.

Granted, the original computer is now hooked up to different motor, could that have something to do with it?

I should add that i tried disconnecting the throttle cable and manually pulling the throttle closed and it didnt move/change anything so I don't think anything is hung up.

It could be a vacuum leak.

As the engine warms up its target idle lowers. If you just let it run a min or three it may not have been long enough. I'm driving my toy today. I'll see how long it takes. Or at least say that at X temp it was idling at X if I can remember to do it.

I drove it around the block about 10 times and its still idling at about 1600rpm when in neutral/park. If I put it in drive, it drops to about 1100 rpm.

I tried spraying brake cleaner around all of the vaccum lines etc but it didn't change the idle.

I wonder if the IAC is bad? I have another one I could swap in, should I give that a try next?

Also, when I had the intake manifold off, the TB looked crazy clean. No carbon build up or anything. I didn't look to see if the flapper was fulling sealing but I suppose I could check that too?

Should i try swapping the IAC from my bad engine? That engine idled perfect.

Is there any trick to removing it or installing it?

Can't you just swap the entire throttle body?

Mine cold start at 38 degrees was idling at 1100rpm in neutral at the 5 minute mark.

Shoot some Throttle Body cleaner in the IAC bypass hole while its idling.

I can swap the entire throttle body, may do that instead.

Even when it's completely warmed up, the idle sits at about 1600 rpm. It actually is a little lower than that on a cold start up and goes up slightly as it warms up.

Weird hey?

You will know where to look after swapping the throttle body.

Ok this is weird. I swapped throttle bodies but now it idles too low, like 400rpm and almost stalls.

I disconnected the negative battery terminal and will wait a bit. Maybe the ECU needs to relearn since I swapped the TB?
