Engine Temperatures

Swap the fan clutch with your old 4runner and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then ebay another clutch and you should be good to go.
Yea a possibility but I am not sure it's worth the trouble, that fan should not have stopped that easily when the car is running at 215.

There is Hayden 2671, found locally for about $120 or $70 on Amazon.

That said, I'd spring for the Aisin. I think Durk and others has posted that the best price can be gotten at partsgeek.com.

No love from Singtoe for a used one he may have lying around?

Yea I would probably leap for the Aisin as well, Partsgeek has it for 117, which is a great price, thanks for letting me know

If I had one, he could have it but the fan clutch gets wrecked in most front end accidents.

FWIW, I run 3 electric fans and never have any cooling issues. I thought DOUS had some electric fans too. I would check to make sure that they were wired right, and the fan blades installed in the correct orientation.

I have two 8" E-fans, well only one has been installed, it is installed correctly and pushes air through the radiator, mounted in front of the trans cooler.

You could try my spare fan clutch I have lying around to see if it works. Its an OEM one from a Tacoma.

Thanks for the offer, but I may as well just replace it at this point!

Sand robs tons efficiency from your driveline. Because everything is working harder just to "work" at all...you get quite a bit more heat generated.

Yep, usually pretty slow speeds too, I know around here it is limited to 15 MPH. The sand radiates a crap ton of heat if the sun is beating down, but then again so does pavement

Ok guys I have been noticing that on the freeway my temps are in 200-202 range in 70 degree weather but when I am driving around town the engine temp is around 190-195. I am getting ready to drive the 4runner from California to Texas so the temps will be around 100 degrees during the day. Do you guys think I will be ok with the engine temps?

That is a ton of variance at low temp. That is odd. I would def. inspect/check your cooling system.

I would expect at 100 degrees to see the system struggle, but if you are getting that much movement at 70.. on the freeway..something is up.

I'm not shocked the factory temp gauge is very inaccurate. Mine NEVER moves (other then warm up).

Thankfully I don't worry about it too much since I'm in a medium to cooler climate. Plus I love information, but sometimes too much can be an issue because I think about it all the time.

Now you have me wondering....

Mine never moves either. The only reason I know it's in the low 200 range is because of the scangauge

My dash gauge moves to the dead center and never moves. My Scangauge reads 198-207 as my normal range. This is in 5 degree weather or 120 degree weather, highway or slow wheeling.

Phd,

Losing any coolant?

It sounds as if there is not enough air getting to the engine from the front of the 4runner.

Nope not losing any coolant. It should be getting air because there is nothing blocking except the stock grill

Shine a flashlight through the condenser and radiator to see if you can see light coming through the other side.

If good to go, then try burping the cooling system with the radiator cap off and the heat on max. How old is the coolant?

Was that water pump OEM?

Man got me wondering, guess thats why the SGII and new rad is on the way to the front door!

Do you have the proper way to burp it? I was a little confused on how to do it reading the wiki directions...

Ya the water pump is OEM. I am getting the coolant changed and thermostat done next week. I'll have the guy burp the system and go from there

Justin you go to a Toy dealership to do your work? I am thinking I will take my rad to them and get them to do the same and replace the thermostat and do the coolant. Any idea what they charge? I get better wifi out here then i do phone service btw! lol my phone is posted up on the top of one of our computer servers close to the window just to get one bar haha

I just read this on YT, answered my own question about burping and how to,

Anyone swapping radiators should pick up a "burping" kit from your local auto parts store. Basically a funnel with mutliple adapters for multiple radiators and it allows you to fill it up with extra coolant and run the motor and as the air "burps" out it lets more coolant run it. After all the air is out you push the stopper in and pick up the funnel and save the extra coolant. Makes life easy and inexpensive.
