West of the Rockies 4Runner

2/14/12 WHEELS PAINTED see post 24 for pics

My west of the Rockies rig! I plan on taking the fam all over the western part of the US in this rig, small trips at a time when I have time to take leave at work.
1997 Limited, 117k miles
ARB 3423020 front bumper
Warn XD9000 winch
Viking/Winchline 3/8 synthetic winch rope, 80’
Viking aluminum fairlead
IPF 800XS driving lights
Diehard Platinum

Front Suspension: Old Man Emu (OME) 882 coils with N91S shocks
Rear Suspension: Old Manu Emu (OME) 890 coils with N86 shocks
Front brakes converted to Toyota Tundra 199mm calipers and rotors
Manual hub conversion with Warn premium hubs
255/85/15 Maxxis Bighorn Tires
Electric locking rear differential
Uniden CB

I've considered it, but I really don't plan on driving in water that deep to make one necessary.

how are you planning to do the dual battery setup? i'm trying to get ideas for a plan for my truck.

You never know when you have to cross a stream to escape from an erupting Volcano.

If that seatbelt annoys you--this may work for you. Noticed it wasn't retracted in one of your pics. Real clean rig with some tasteful mods already done, love that color.

There's a great thread on here, I'll see if I can dig it up. The guy is running 2 optimas. a yellow top and a red top. I might not even do the dual set up being as this current battery is simply bad ass. I think I will upgrade the alternator for now and see how that goes.

I hadn't seen 265/75r16 on a 4runner in a while and I think you just convinced me to go with that size in the TAs vs the 285/75r16s.

The 265's are $31 cheaper each and 6 lbs lighter each.

And . . .most important part

- - they look great on your truck!!

Ive ran 265 TA's and Muds. The TA's look a lot smaller and stockish where the muds always look a lot more larger and beefy. Just a heads up!

The 265s are pretty nice so far. I think I will upgrade to 285s once these wear out, but There will definitely be trimming involved for them to not rub when flexing. I think that these tires with some spacers on the wheels would look awesome too.

255/85 isn't a bad tire, but I personally don't like going any more narrow than the 265, and would rather sacrifice the small amount of height for the little bit of width. My next tires will likely be duratracs. These E load KMs have been great the past couple of days i have owned it, but in the event i need to drive around in a lot of snow or ice I think that the duratracs will help....or maybe i'll just get these siped lol

none of that will be for a while though because I am going to rock these tires until they are worn. I'm in no hurry. And i will only get 285's if i get some TRD FJ wheels, otherwise i'll just get spacers and keep going with 265s. They really work well and I don't think are too small

Today I was going to paint the wheels...Unfortunately it is raining. so I said HEY! lemme gather up the family and go do some exploring.

We kept it pretty mild as I was the only rig out there, and i had the whole family with...Still had a blast. Found some slick/muddy inclines and some snow here and there but mostly just a relaxing drive. Tried to stay away from anything to snowy.
This was all out on the Oregon Trail and Bennett Mountain near Mountain Home Idaho
