Entune Update Email

HiJacking...

I have yet to get my weather, traffic, etc working from the car console. The bluetooth works for phone calls and for music. When I try the other functions, I keep getting the error:

"Connection has failed. Please ensure that the Entune app is running on your phone".

- I have confirmed pairing (and even deleted and repaired)
- I do have the Entune Suite App running on my iPhone
- I did create an Entune account using my vehicles VIN
- I have gone through the setup and tried enabling "internet connection", but get the same error

The "Connect to Vehicle" is grayed out when I go to the app setup screen. Does that have anything to do with my connection problem?

Any other ideas of things to try?

usually the weather/traffic is tied to clear channel radio stations. tune to one for about 10-15 minutes and it should work/update.

NM. Figured it out after more research. Apparently you have to have your phone connected via the USB cable for the additional features to work. The blog post I read said that some phones work over bluetooth others require the cable. I guess my iPhone 6 requires the cable.

I had the opposite problem. When it was plugged into the USB, nothing (I had read somewhere that Android needed to use Bluetooth, but IOS devices had to be plugged in). So I said to heck with it, and stopped using the app and decided to just use Amazon Prime Music over bluetooth (my new favorite addiction!). One day I was annoyed because I refused to be beat by a head unit. So I tried the app again while just using Bluetooth and then it started working - go figure. I found the app to be buggy, at best. It's really clunky. And to add to what others said, I wish they would just use Google! For some reason, it seems to be a hit or miss.

For everyone else - do you prefer using things like iHeart and Slacker from within Entune? Or do you find it easier just using them by default on your phone using bluetooth or an aux cable? So far, the only apps I have used are Amazon music and Pandora. When over bluetooth, I can still use the steering wheel controls to change tracks.

I haven't updated Entune on my '13. I read too many posts about folks running into problems when attempting an update. It just seemed like the marginal functionality wouldn't be worth the hassle. Now if Toyota removes the series of legal acknowledgements every time I try to sync my phone, that would be a different story. I think there are 3-4 different acknowledgement screens I have to deal with every time I tether my phone. Royal PITA.

LOL I actually wrote them (obviously about the 2013 model), step for step explained the issues, and dangers of all of the "prompt confirmation screens" and sent them pictures of that bullsh!t. They kindly completely derailed the subject and told me you weren't allowed to enter nav coords while driving... I was like LOL WTF just happened? Seriously stupid waste of time trying to give them feedback.

Apart from the issue mentioned above, when you used to use the "Source" selection, the preset list would adjust accordingly. So if you chose "FM" it went to the first list of FM presets, if you chose "Sat" it switched to the first set of Satellite presets, well it doesn't do that any more. :frusty:

Seriously for how much the NAV+Entune "option" costs at purchase time, it is a complete POS. They should release the source code so someone can actually fix the damn thing and make it useful.

I have a 2015 and just received the email five minutes ago. I don't have to update with USB though. Looks like it will work wirelessly.

Looks like it's JUST the destination search for the newer versions of Entune.

I do wish they'd fix the bluetooth streaming so cover artwork would display properly vs the generic "rock" or "techno" stock art they use. I can't figure out how to make that work properly. It displays properly when connected via USB however.

head units that are pre-2014 or have not done the 3.1 --> 3.2 update will have to do the usb method I think. once 3.1 & 3.2 came out, all updates where thru your cellphone.

I am guessing iphone user?

Mine shows album artwork while Bluetooth streaming off of Pandora and the phone's music player on a iPhone 6.

Mine also shows album artwork via Bluetooth streaming off of Pandora and the phone's music app on my Galaxy S6. No problems.

depends on the iphone version. I know some of the 4/5 had issues with the album artwork not transferring via BT.

I think they didn't incorporate the correct BT version/protocol for that, only via usb.

on the 6 and higher versions you shouldn't have any issues on artwork via BT.

I guess I should have been more detailed on the response.

Actually if you have a data plan that allows your iPhone to be a hotspot, you do not need a cable to connect the Entune apps to the phone. I did this in my 13 and it works great. Here's how to do it.

Got my email today about the update for my '15. Here's what it says:

"On August 20, the Entune App Suite will have a new search engine app—Destination Search—replacing the existing Bing search engine."

Got my email today for the 2015.

Looks like no USB is needed for the update at least on the 2015's rather it goes through the smartphone.

Pretty much the same as the past update for Slacker Radio a few months back and the original update when first using Entune App via Bluetooth connected smartphone.

So long Bing...wonder what happened there? Toyota didn't want to pay royalties to Microsoft and develop their own address search engine?

just updated and everything went smoothly. it did not update over the air so i just downloaded the file and plugged in. thanks!

edit: the interface feels snappier also, could be only me tho.
