EVAP vapor pressure valve?

Ok, well I've been getting this 0442 code, EVAP small leak. Wifey smells gas under rear of truck so I told her to take the truck to a smog shop sicne it is emissions related. The shop checked the system & HE says the vapor pressure valve needs replaced.

He wants to charge $160 to drop the tank PLUS the parts (cost to yet be determined). Uhhh, I don't think so...

Is this the solenoid valve down by the charcoal cannister? The one buried behind/above all the hoses? (I really need to get a repair manual for this truck...)

It depends on the year... I think it was around 01 they changed it to under the tank.. 99 still had it on the drivers side inner fender. If it's by the tank 160.00 is not a bad deal the part is probly 60 and 100 for his time (which saves you time) if it's on the fender you can do this yourself in ten mins. So you have to figure that part out first.

Awhile back I saw a tutorial w/ pics on changing some sort of electrical solenoid valve down by the charcoal can on this site. I think this is the valve I need to R&R. I can't find it now; anyone remember the thread?

Also, anyone know if I should just R&R the charcoal cannister when doing the valve as a preventative step since wifey can smell gas? Or is it likely the valve is the source of the gas smell?
