I've been dealing with a cracked passenger side manifold for a long time and the noise finally got so bad i decided to get it replaced. It stopped getting quiet when the engine was warm and was much louder then it used to be so I gave in and bought the Magnaflow direct fit manifold and Felpro gasket set. Took it to the dealership cause they quoted me 197 in labor plus whatever bolts they had to cut off to get it done. That seemed like a good deal and worth not having to waste a Saturday skinning my knuckles to death. Got it back after the price jumped another hour in labor (they underestimated what a pita it was) and it was quiet at first but as I drove it around I could hear the distinctive sound of a donut gasket leak coming from the passenger side. I checked their work and all the bolts are tight and everything looks in place, including the AIS pipe and gasket, so I'm not sure what the issue might be. I looked at the y pipe for cracks and couldn't find any. At idle underneath the truck it's silent. No visible carbon coming from any mating surfaces that would indicate a leak. I thought maybe it is the fuel pressure damper so I replaced that but no dice. I'm taking it back to them next week but they gave me crap, insisting the sound is all in my head and that they won't find anything. I'm puzzled. It's def a leak and only on one side of the engine. I suspect its before the Y pipe BC of the pulsating nature of it. If it was after the Y it would have a more consistent tone. Its strange it only occurs when the engine is warm and under load, never when cold or driving off when its cold. Any ideas?
