My exhaust tip bracket apparently rusted out and I found it on the floor in my garage. I bought this 2008 4Runner SR5 V6 in June with only 17k miles on it. This part was recalled on the 2008 Highlander due to rusting out. I never took notice of how this bracket was mounted on my vehicle prior to it falling off. Fortunately, I did not lose the tip. The toyota dealer ordered the bracket and installed it yesterday, however there are a few things that are still bothering me. I have posted a few pictures below for you guys/girls to take a look at. Here are my questions:
1. Does it look like the bracket has been installed properly? I ask because the instructions I found online say that the bolts should be on the left side of the tailpipe and they are on the top: http://toyotapart.com/PTS18-89060.pdf
2. Was the bolt on the old bracket attached above where it appears that it would have been screwed in to the top underside of the vehicle? What are these holes above the tailpipe for? It appears the new bracket was redesigned and the bolt is now shorter.
3. Now there appears to be a little "play" in the tailpipe itself, in other words it moves a little (not alot). I tested it by knocking on it with my knuckle and it does move a little. I also had my wife drive it while I was observing from outside the vehicle and I noticed that it will move when you are driving and hit a bump in the road. Should the tailpipe be firm or should it have this play in it? I noticed that there is a rubber exhaust hanger that holds the tailpipe. Is this part able to be tightened or is it a fixed piece? If not, what are your suggestions for stabilizing the tailpipe so it is firm?
4. It also appears that whoever installed this the first time, or maybe this time also tightened it too much and put a small dent in the tailpipe. I don't see a hole in the pipe however, and I am not sure if this will cause a problem?
5. Lastly, can you guys/girls post some pictures of your exhaust tip for comparison?
