Exo Roof Rack?

I want to have a roof rack that I can load up with a roof top tent or what ever the hell I want without worrying about the stock hardtop caving in. So I want to do something like this....

I just don't know how to weld or how much it would cost to have something like this done. I will be ordering the front and back bumper pre made, so all I would need welded is the side support bars that connect to the front and rear bumpers, then have the rack welded to it as well. Any Idea on the cost of this and where I can go to have it done in the Seattle, WA area?

if you can get the tube for it, that will help lower your cost but id throw in some tubing from slider to the top to help with support.

There was a guy on TTORA that was selling a roof rack for a 1st gen that had supports on the rear bumper and sliders. The last post from him said that someone was trying it out, so it might be sold.

Here's the thread when it was for sale with the bumper attachment. I was wrong though. It attached to the gutter, but if you made a support to your sliders that would be solid.

I'm going to have to make my own I guess. Do you just get 2" steel pipe from homedepot or lowes? How do you bend it?

You should call your local recycling center for good deals on steel (both square and round). Do some googling on how to bend the pipe and then if you have access to the oxy-acetylene equipment, brazing is quite easy with only minimal practice. The hard part is engineering the angles and drilling the ends of the pipe to properly join together.

For some reason it bothers me that someone would lavish so much love on a Sidekick.

There is a 1st gen. Rack available that has six tubes that run down the sides of the cap with flat steel tabs that bolt onto the edge of the bed using thae cap bolts. Can't find a pic though.

No thanks on the roof rack, I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do with my top to make a RTT work. Thanks though.
