Experience with ngk laser irdium spark plugs? V8 motor

Hey guys been reading for more than an hour on denso long life and ngk irdium laser plugs. I know Denso are oem. And since they are comparable in cost, has anyone here had a bad experiences with either plug. I have an 05 with v8.

Personally I'd stick with OEM plugs. Iv'e heard of misfires and other weird things with those type of plugs in our engines, my BMW and even my Weed Whacker!

I run nothing but Laser Iridiums in mine. Swapped out OE for my first set at 75K and just changed to my second set around 162K or so. I love them. No issues, wouldn't run anything else.

I actually probably ran the first set for something like 10K miles after a seafoam treatment (which some say fowls plugs). They looked great when I pulled them (but so did the OE ones for that matter). Also picked up about 1-1.5 MPG since this new set was installed.

Always check and reset the gap, reson why people get misfire is they all think its good out the box, check the gap and regap if need too, i set all mines at the same, slighty smaller than out the box.

Read on here re-gap should not be necassary. Could easily damage plug.

I've never needed to re-gap. I do always check them though and they've always been to spec. I've read the same thing about the Laser Iridium plugs though. The tip is super fine and could possibly be damaged if gapped improperly. I think they might even say on the box, not adjust the gap (Don't quote me on that). I'd just exchange it for another one if the gap was out.

Edit: Yup, just checked the box and it says not to adjust the gap due to possible damage to fine center electrode.

Thanks superman. I have used ngk platinums on previous toyotas with good results. Anybody think that the NGks lasers are better than denso oems? Or at least equal to them

NGK is one of the OEM providers for Toyota. I wouldn't hesitate in buying either plug.

As for regapping...I ALWAYS check..and while it's rare..I've seen plugs NOT in spec.

V8 4Runners like mine came from the factory with one bank of Denso and one bank of NGK iridium plugs (not the laser ones), if that tells you anything.

The price difference between the laser iridiums and the regular iridiums isn't that drastic if I recall. And for a part that I only have to change out every 100K miles, I'm willing to pay the small difference for a part with a tighter tolerance. Whether or not it actually performs differently could be up for debate I guess, but I'm willing to take a chance and shell out the extra buck or so per plug if it could possibly be better.

I've run both Denso and NGK in many of my vehicles and you can't really go wrong with either. I personally prefer NGK, but not for any real particular reason.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, but what exactly is the significance of different spark plugs? Is it power? MPG? Or just change in interval of replacement?

There is a difference on longevity and in my opinion, that IS about it. If you are running boost, the temp range on them should be a range or two colder but that is it. Please do not get wrapped up in the "V-Power", E3 etc things like that. Just stick with the NGK Iridium that the book calls for and call it good. Especially in the V-8s, I do not think it makes one bit of difference. OH....Also stay away from Champion unles you are driving a Mopar product. ONLY thing they are good in.

In my 06' Tacoma I had 3 cylinders that had Denso's and 3 that had NGK's - I think this is factory setup on some Taco's - I went with Denso's all around and again in my 04' V8 4Runner.

I'm really curious as to why they did that. My 4runner's at 125K miles and still has that setup (half Denso/ half NGK). Does that mean they're original plugs or is it possible that at sometime (I've only owned it for 10k) the dealership replaced them in that fashion?

So sorry if this is a dumb question but how do I know what size plug I need. I'd like to go with the NGK Laser Iridium plugs, and I have a 2004 V8, is that something I can just look up in my owners manual?

edit - Nevermind, just went to the NGK site and found the numbers and products that fit. But which one is their highest performing? the Iridium IX? OE Laser Iridium? V-power? G-power? Laser Platinum?

Those are the original plugs - factory setting from what I understand, on some models.
