experiences with backup camera and navigation system

I just bought a 2005 4runner V8 after many months of searching for what I wanted. Now I want to upgrade it with a navigation system with backup camera. I have been searching for posts regarding back up cameras and navigation systems. I see a lot of new installs but I am wondering what everyones experiences have been after the install. any problems down the road?
Any regrets for not getting something different?

I have read amazon reviews and will see people give something 5 stars and many others give 1 stars due to being defective.

Any overall preference on a unit that uses garmin or other navigation software? One I looked at had really cool 3d navigation that looked more sophisticated than the ones that use Garmin.

The systems I have looked at so far are:
Pioneer AVIC-6000NEX
Kenwood DNX691HD

Those are the only ones available at the local stereo shop that were recommended.

The back up camera is a different story and I hear so many horror stories of them failing meaning a whole new job at rewiring for a different one.
I like the idea of the license plate mounted one that makes it centered but really do not care if it is a matter of quality and one that will last and stay waterproof.

looking for recommendations.
Thanks!

I have had my 07 with JBL upgraded to a Nav capable kenwood unit but dont use it as the phone makes it too easy.

I will say this KNOW what system you have and what your looking for. I had the JBL with sub so the stock head unit used it to process the speakers for the rest of the system. I started with just the head unit and sound sucked worse than a 88 honda civic.... (ouch for an upgrade) Well my buddy works at the audio shop so hooked me up with all new speakers for the doors an new sub which required a new amp as the stocker was gone. But that only worked for the 4 door peakers and the sub so after that i got a processor added to run the other channels from the JBL. now after all is said and done probably the best sounding stereo iv heard in a daily car. Also cost about 2500$ if i remember over the course. only thing not factory looking is the sub mounted to my storage box as the factory spot got filled with the amp and processor.

Also added the backup camera.... I used a amazon or ebay one that replaces my factory license plate light adding a camera. yeah it works but due to the southern heat the "lense" faded bad so its not OEM clear but enough to stop from hitting things. Ill be looking to replace it at some point but havent really researched a new one or wanted to open the hatch again to get to it.
