Extended Warranty? 2015 4Runner limited

I'm inclined to say an extended warranty for a 5th gen 4runner is not worth it, but what is the cost?

If you can get one for ~ $1,000, I might see a valid argument for getting one. When you start talking about $2k-$3k and above, I think it makes less sense.

Warranties are all about competing costs and the probability of failures. What kind of breakdown's/failures are you expecting for your vehicle (in terms of $) and what is the probability of them occurring?

If the total repair cost for these failures exceeds or comes close to the cost of the warranty and probability of them occurring is high, then a warranty makes sense. If not, don't bother with a warranty.

These quotes I received were for the Toyota Care Platinum - Zero Deductible Warranty. If you are still within your factory warranty I am sure they can do something for you.

I got an even better deal from my local dealer when I told him about this thread. I think he realized I was serious about buying online and still made money on the deal - granted, not as much as he wanted.

Actually, I can understand gamesters concern and caution. I know for a fact that Toyota has (for whatever reason) clamped down on their dealers selling these warranties across state lines. There was a very good and highly used agent at Midwest Toyota that used to sell these warranties and, apparently, he got into trouble for this. So, gamester probably is doing us all (including the warranty guy) a service by keeping the info a little less public. My 2 cents.

This is correct information.

Just recently a member I sent to inquire about a warranty got a great deal, $600 less than the lowest quote he could find so it is working.

I think I was lucky to find this thread. I bought my 4Runner Trail edition with the KDSS two years ago. Just turned thirty thousand miles and was thinking I should look into an extended warranty. So if you could send me the information also I would very much appreciate it!

I have had mixed experiences with a third party warranty. After battling a very well known warranty company on my previous vehicle...long story...I decided to buy a Toyota, main reason - reliability. I am not planning on purchasing an extended warranty. My $0.02
