Extended Warranty? 2015 4Runner limited

These are ToyotaCare Platinum Zero Deductible warranties.

I do realize our Toyota's are well built machines but this offers a "security blanket" so to speak that several owners wish to carry. If not that's OK too I understand.

Just to be clear, I don't work for Toyota and am not affiliated with them in any way, shape or form. Just have this information for our forum members to save money if they wish to go the Extended Warranty route.

Any luck on any recent purchases of warranties

I am curious as to whether any of the people that have gotten the contact information in the last few months have actually been able to get the warranty even though their vehicles have been on the road or they are in other states. I am shopping for a 2016 now and this would be good information to have when I am negotiating my new purchase.

I had never purchased an extended warranty before my latest 4runner. I drove a 98 Limited for 12 years before trading it in on a 2010 Limited. I had ZERO problems with my '98 in the 200,000 miles I drove it. I bought the 2010 used and it had under 25K miles. I opted for the extended warranty after reading some threads here in 2012 talking about some of the issues the 2010s were having. Since then, I have had to replace the driver side door lock actuators 3 times and the other three doors twice. When I first called the dealership they quoted me almost $700 per door to replace. Luckily I had the warranty so it cost me $50 per time. I know now that I could have changed out the little motor for under $20 off of ebay and some of my time and effort.

So I am still on the fence about the warranty for the new vehicle.

Hi Markus,

I do know of a few that have been able to make this purchase in the past several months. If you are still within your factory warranty you should be able to purchase an extended warranty.

I Decided to go with the extended warrant. mine is a trail with kdss and I know the system is spendy not to mention other parts. I only had to use one 1 time and that was on one of my tundra's I have had 3 lol. anyway I had been pulling a bunch with my 07 I had a 29ft denali trailer weighing in at 7k and had the tranny let loose. I don't remember the exact cost but I think with everything they did at the time it was around 3k in 07 so it really was worth it for me.

since then I have down sized and traded in my old trailer for a new coachmen clipper 17ft weighs only 2700 pounds so it should be good to go!

2015 SR5 4-Runner extended warranty

I just bought a used 2015 SR5 with 14000 miles in excellent shape.

They offered me a genuine Toyota extended warranty for around $2500 6 years $100,000 miles! After researching this is and out rageous price and of course did not purchase it. Boulder Colorado dealership.

Anyway I had an extended warranty on my first 1988 4-runner, first year the 4-door model came out. Great car and I collected several times on everything from electric door motors to 5 speed transmission shifting issues to finally a blown head gasket at 95,000 miles. Ended up the next year as a factory recall.

Since this new 4-runner has a computer that operates everything and millions of new electronic entertainment center, the extended warranty might be good to keep it from nickle and dimming me to death. I just spoke with Jerry Johnson I believe his name is and he quoted much better prices on the extended warranty than anyone else I have seen. Only hitch he cannot out of Kansas other to a neighboring state. We are in Colorado so he cannot sell me one very reasonably. 8 yr. 125,000 for around $1900. I priced at other dealers and it was more like $2,500. Quite a difference.

Anyone heard of a Toyota dealership not offering Toyotacare warranties? I'm sure it happens but I was a little surprised when they told me they don't offer it. They have a different "national plan" that they're pushing.

I am not sure I would feel to comfortable with that plan, I am sure the dealership makes more money on that than the Toyota Care plan is my guess.

Never bought one before but on my 2016 TEP, I was able to negotiate the price of a Toyota Factory Warranty down to $835 for 8years // 75,000 miles. The cost was so reasonable, even if I never use it, it will be a excellent marketing point when the time comes to sell. It really felt like a wise investment.

I bought a 2012 4R Limited in Apr 2012. The dealer (Toyota of Dallas) offered to sell me an extended wty for around $2k but I declined. A couple of months later, I ended up buying a 7yr/100K ext wty for $840 from Acton Toyota in Littleton, MA (thx to a thread I saw on this site). The wty was backed by Toyota Financial Services and was their "platinum" plan with $0 deductible and basically covers everything but tires and wiper blades.

Last week the auto lock feature on the driver's door handle quit working and the power door lock on the driver's door quit. Took it to Toyota of Dallas and they replaced the door lock actuator and a couple of other parts under the wty. According to the invoice the cost was $544, so my ext wty almost paid for itself with just one repair. I still have 3 yrs and about 40K miles to go so I think it was a good investment.

Ahhh hogwash and bull manure. Toyota could care less about somebody saying they got a better deal here or there.

They are in the business of selling vehicles. A warranty costs the dealer X dollars from Toyota. If dealer A wants to offer it for $10 while dealer B says we'll sell it for $5 and still make a profit, but less of a profit, that's the dealers choice.

I used to buy extended warranty from a dealer in Midwest (I'm sure most people know who he is) for 1/3 of what my local dealers wanted to sell to me. Now he can only sell to customers in his state or states next to his state. I am not in a state next to his.

Back then, all my local dealers wanted to know who was selling for 1/3 of their price. I just told them "if you can't beat that, I am not buying from you. I am not going to tell you who either." They knew the price they needed to beat was $100-$200 over their cost instead of $1k-$2k.

Average finance people (not your salesperson) at the dealership make $$$,$$$. Mark up from the extended warranty is a big part of that. I am sure the finance person is going to tell Toyota who is cutting into his piece of pie and Toyota needs to do something about that.

As I stated above, I normally do not believe in extended warranties.

When I bought my TE, TFS was able to beat my CU best rate by like 1.7% or something and I just rolled the savings into an 8 year Platinum warranty.

However... My "extended warranties are a waste of money" thing kept bothering me so I paid the truck off last month and cancelled my extended warranty today.

I've got 5,500 miles on the truck after 15 months so lets face it, it's a Toyota and the odds of me ever needing to use what the extended warranty cost are slim at best. More likely infinitesimal.

It is funny though. I paid off the truck the first week in April, TFS "lost" the check (after 4 calls and much patience they "found" it) and today when I went into the dealer to cancel the extended warranty he said it's not showing as paid off, so it may delay the refund by a week or so because it will probably go to TFS instead of me.

Ready for the humor??? I got home and what was in my mailbox?

A buddy of mine, who owns a 4Runner, was buying a highlander for his wife. He tried to buy a platinum warranty from out of state from someone that had been mentioned on this site. The guy told him he could not sell out of state anymore unless he drove to the dealership and walked in, somehow there was a crack down...

There's a pretty active thread re: factory warranties on the RAV4 forum. Sounds to me like the crackdown wasn't hogwash. FYI, Toyota no longer publishes MSRP on their warranties. My dealer claimed that retail was double toyotas last published prices. Showed me some bs typed up price list.
