I got the full factory extended warranty when I bought my 2015 trail edition. Just did it because I do not trust sunroofs.

Thank you for letting me join this forum and I'm excited to actually own a 4Runner :banana: which brings me to my question.
2015 Trail Premium
55.5k miles
The dealership sold me on a extended warranty for 50k/48 months(so good for 105k total bumper to bumper) for :frusty: $3800! I already have a 100k power train warranty for free but my main reason for getting the extended was for the entune, heated seats, sunroof, etc etc. Ya know...all those bells and whistles that can break and cost $1000+ each to fix. My previous two vehicles were BMWs and I loved the extended warranty and easily got the value out of them. Guess I'm not sure if I'm making the right gamble here. Literally woke up in the middle of the night after leaving the dealership last night at 6:30 thinking about this.
I've already put in for some quotes to see if I can get another 3rd party warranty for way cheaper. Then again, I may drop the extended warranty all together.
Thoughts? :help:

It's definitely a personal decision but since you asked I'll give my take. I don't go for the extended warranties as my belief is if there is a manufacturing defect or even a lemon, it's going to show itself early on within the manufacture's normal warranty period. Of course some things will break beyond that period, and unfortunately sometimes shortly after it expires, but it is still statistically improbable (look up the bathtub curve).
You bought a very reliable vehicle, incorporating tried and true, yet old parts, from a manufacturer heralded for its Quality, Durability and Reliability. Lord knows they don't make overly exciting vehicles.
You also joined a forum with a collection of smart people that are a very hands on group. As our 5th gens age, people here will have worked out common problems and fixes that you can perform yourself. There will be a healthy supply of used parts as there are many 5th gens on the road. This has held true for my 2000 4Runner with 205k miles. It's a reliable vehicle and has never left me stranded, but it's 17 years old and things break and more serious maintenance items have to be attended to. This forum has helped me perform items on that car that I would never tackle if the knowledge and guidance wasn't available.
What if your vehicle never fails in your warranty period, then you are out $3800.00. If you saved that money and chose not to use a dealership for a replacement of a failed part, your $3800.00 could go a lot further at a reputable private shop to perform a repair. If you don't like to get your hands dirty and want the security and peace of mind of the extended warranty, just in case, then that's what it's there for. Not trying to sway you, just giving my angle. Good luck and congrats on your new 4Runner!

With that being said I have got another quote for $3000 for same specs. Well almost. 48k miles instead of 50k. I am starting to lean towards relying on the knowledge base here and figuring out ways to fix know issues. I did read through my contract and I have 60 days and with no claims a 100% refund. $3800 could go way further in facebook/netflix stock instead of stuck in an unknown vortex which is this warranty world. Yes peace of mind, no not a sure bet. Damn you Toyota with your reliable vehicles! Lol.
At least I have some time to think on things now. Plus my neighbor gave me some hydraulic jacks yesterday for free and I am def down to get my hands dirty.

I would look through that paperwork very closely. Normally extended warranties run from the date of delivery of the vehicle (as in off the lot brand new).
$3,800 or even $3,000 is a chunk of money and at that price I would hesitate as well.
The Toyota Care warranties my contact has are FAR cheaper and make it worth it for a security blanket so to speak. Peace of mind knowing that just in case I will be covered.
Yes, there are many smart, and very helpful people on this forum but if you have a major part go south paying a few hundred dollars up front for the warranty starts to look like it is a smart investment.
It is good for some but not for all. Toyota make a great product but sometimes things happen.
To each their own I say!!

Gamester you ask for feedback on time it takes to receive paperwork for extended warranty. Got receipt in mail from Jennifer in less than a week and received my policy from Toyota in a total of 20 days. I bought one a few years back for a 4th gen that was a Toyota Platinum Plus with zero deductable, I,am not sure if this is the same warranty but the price was sure right.
Please take this as you wish, I have owned several Toyota's from the Tacoma to the Tundra and Squier to 4 Runners and even one Hybrid Highlander. All ended up with well over 16000 miles on them and I never needed to use an extended warranty. I only bought one extended for the Highlander Hybrid. My first Toyota 4x4 pick was bought in 1971 it had well over 200000 miles on and I never changed a spark plug in it. It had the bullet proof 22R 4 cylinder engine. The body rotted off of it that engine is still running a small lumber mill here in Vermont. Yes I'm an old dog! I just purchased another 2015 4 Runner.:gun4:
