Extended Warranty

Hi, just joined. We picked up a 2013 Trail today and I am thinking about the extended warranty, any thoughts about the value/need on a quality vehicle such as this. Thanks

You will probably get a fairly equal number of for's and against's here, based on people's experiences. As for me, I purchased a 75k bumper to bumper zero deductible factory warranty at the time of purchase for $750. I have made zero claims and have 20k left on the warranty. I would probably do it again even if I never end up using it. Getting a major component fixed or replaced out of warranty is extremely expensive on modern vehicles and the cost to cover it, if only to 75k, seemed modest to me.

We had a group buy here a couple years ago. $835 for bumper to bumper 100k 7yr at a dealer I found in Kansas I think.

Now with 60k have not used it. Look around. prices vary.

Bought 100k bumper to bumper on our 2011 trail haven't used just bought 08 bought 3 year 36000 bumper to bumper on it too. Hope I never have to but something major goes wrong call 1800 number they pick it up take to nearest yota dealer give you a rental call you when it's finished. :bigok:

Also bought extended warranty with new '08 T4R Limited. It has navigation and lots of power options (sunroof, heated seats, you get the idea), so certainly something would fail. But no, at least not yet. After 5 years and 47k miles, no claims. I kind of regret spending the money, but rationalize the purchase by remembering the warranty is transferrable if I ever sell. Naw, that doesn't work either, cause I LOVE MY 4RUNNER and I'M NEVER GOING TO SELL IT!

I passed on the extended warrantee for my 2013 4R. The way I look at it is, if the vehicle has a major problem in the first 100K miles then I bought a truck from the wrong manufacturer. I’ve owned several Toyota’s and never had an issue in the first 100K. If you bought a Chevy or Ram then that may be a different story.

Synister, that is my thinking too, but then I look at all the advanced electronics and wonder what to do. I guess I have some time to think about it and hopefully we will get some more opinions here.

Welcome!
Jump over to the 5th gen section and read the thread on extended warranty for the 2010 and newer trucks. Most people that buy one (including me) seem to buy them from Jerrry in Kansas. Read the thread for details, but his price was almost half what my local dealer wanted for the same Toyota warranty and he was great to deal with.

I don't normally buy warranties, well NEVER before this one. But this LE has so many expensive to replace toys on it (smartkey, sunroof, nav, etc) that I considered the 7 year 100K warranty to be more of a comfort item purchase due to the risk of something expensive breaking than a financial decision.

Extended Extended Warranty?

My 7yr/100K warranty just expired on my '06 Sport. I know that most of the talk here has been about where to get the best deal on Toyota extended warranties. What about aftermarket warranties, now that i'm out of my Toyota warranty? Are there any reliable companies that offer them?
