Extra power outlets - 2009 module in 2007?

Has anyone added extra power outlets by installing the 2009 4R power outlet and rear window unit in an older 4th gen? I realize I'd have to reroute wiring for the rear window, and plug the hole on the dash, but wondering if this has been done by anyone else?

the4Rdan,

Option #1
You can get that & just don't reroute the wire for the window.

Option #2
You can get the "Smoker Package" where you replace that unit & have (2) cigarette outlet.

Option #3
You can go to an electronic store & buy a cigarette outlet splitter.

oh yea, looks much better, but i wouldnt want to rewire the window switch just to have it.

I really like that, I wouldn't want to reroute the wiring either. But would it be hard since it is all on the center console anyway?

I did this. It was very simple plug-n-play. The ashtray is handy for coins etc. (Yes, I know there's an official coin holder.) My guess is the smoking kit is cheaper than the '09 outlets too.

What I don't like is when the lighter outlet is not in use it's an open, live outlet. I feel like I could drop something in there. I always pull the lighter out of the glovebox and use it to fill the hole. That doesn't happen often as I leave my phone charger in that outlet 98% of the time.

I prefer Option #2

Has anybody been able to find that 2009 unit for purchase? I like the way it looks and could probably find a creative way to use that window switch.

Thanks for the input guys! This forum is so much better than some of the other forums I've used in the past for other vehicles!

I put a request in at my dealer to see if that unit is available and what the part number is. They said they weren't aware of anyone doing that swap, but didn't see why it wasn't possible. I'll let you know what I find out.

Any updates on this? I like the smokers kit but wish the second outlet had a cover like the normal outlet.

I was hoping for the same thing too, but when I checked the prices at Conicelli, I was told it was about $170, and at $55 for the smoker's kit, I just couldn't justify it. Smoker's kit was super easy to install, and don't regret it.

I did this mod recently from someone here who posted all the pics, its an outlet from Walmart for $11 bucks easy to do...had an issue with the led lights being bright, pulled off the top and used a sharpie to darken the led light and all is good..if you need covers, you can buy plugs for those not being used easily removed..when you do...

Holy crap, that looks cool!

And did it just sit in there on top of the one outlet that was there? Or did you have to screw it in?

@2k54RUNNIN: That Gif in your avatar is mesmorizing! Where did ye get it!
