Extreme Cargo Mats

Anyone use these. I have a 2006 Sport and I'm tired of opening the rear hatch and having things slide out and hit the pavement. Yesterday afternoon, it was several boxes of shotgun shells and last night it was a portable radio. They apparently make two versions, one for double decker system and one for standard. Since I hardly, if ever, use the double deck, does it matter which one I get. Appreciate any advice from anyone who has used this mat. Thanks.

I have one of the Cargo mats in the back of my truck and have found it very useful for protecting the carpet. I have the double decker system and have the mat on top of the double decker. I also have a cargo net that that keeps things from rolling out of the back of the truck if they get loose as well as one of the cargo totes that has adjustable sections. This is great for holding grocery bags and such.

I'm not clear. Do you have the carpet style cargo mat? That's what i already have. I'm talking about the black rubberized mat made by Xtreme or Nifty. I'm not clear why they list two versions of the mat, one for people with double-decker and another for those w/o double decker. Is one narrower so that if the double-decker is up it will fit within the braces?

I have one of the Husky mats. I also have the Toyota rear carpet cover that came with the truck, but I took it out and put the black Husky mat in its place. I think it's the Husky... I'll have to check...

Anyway, one of the rubber mat companies makes mats for the upper deck of the double decker and the lower deck, but not all of them will make a mat that covers the DD when it is in its down position and locked. That's the one I have.

Yeah, I was cleaning the 4-Runner this afternoon and took a closer look at the double decker. I think that is part of the problem with everything falling out. When down, it adds another few inches of height to the rear floor but it stops short of abutting the hatch leaving a space plus it has this cute little turned down lip. I think items teeter on that lip and then when you open the hatch-Whamo! Again, Xtreme cargo mat which is listed by Toyota as a dealer- installed accessory, lists two versions depending on the double decker. I'm not sure what the difference in them is or which one I want.

I have the double-decker (and use it) so have a WeatherTech cargo liner underneath. When I need to use the shelf in the down position, I just place the cargo liner on top of the shelf and it works fine. I suspect that you should be able to put a cargo liner on top of the shelf all the time if you lock it in the down position.

On top of the shelf, I just cut a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet runner to fit -- functional and cost less than $10.

Also, to keep things from falling out I bought the rear envelope cargo net.

WeatherTech does have a lip, but since the liner is flexible it doesn't keep everything in. I find the WeatherTech to be more slip-resistant than Husky Brand (I've owned both); however, nothing stops all skids.

My wife has the molded Husky floor mats in her Lexus RX-300 and the material stikes me as very slippery. I think the carpeted cargo mat I have would be more slide resisitant than the Husky. I have not found the double-decker system to be very useful but then again, I haven't used it much. In order to deploy it, you have to take everything out of the cargo area first and I'm too lazy to do that. It probably seemed like a good idea on paper but I'll bet without it, fewer things would be falling out of my truck. I wish someone had a made to fit plain rubber mat like the carpeted cargo mat. That would probably be ideal for my purpose and not cost $80-90.

I don't believe WeatherTech makes one for the double-decker if the shelf will be kept down -- so what they have doesn't accomodate the 1"-2" of increased height in the middle of the area.

What I use the double-decker for is keeping my toolbox and standard supplies underneath. You are right, though -- when you need to put the shelf down, you have to take everything out, lower the shelf, then put everything back. Fortunately, that's just the toolbox and a bag, to it takes just a couple of minutes.

Appearently, the double decker is such a great idea, Honda's got something similar in the '07 CR-V.

I personally don't use the DD and the Husky cargo liner just makes it even more cumbersome to use.

I have the Xtreme cargo mat that's part of the Toyota accessories, the lip is minimal so will just barely hold any spills. But the surface texture is very non-slip, much better than the husky liner, which I used to have on my previous 3rd gen 4Runner. Overall, I like it a lot, and the fit is good. Bought it from Partznet.

This may be a bit off topic here but I was considering getting the weathertech cargo liner, except I always fold my second row down for additional cargo room. unfortunately, from the picture I saw on the website, it forms a lip at the edge of the second row, and thats why I did not want to buy it. Is there another cargo liner that does not have that lip, or a way to eliminate the lip from the edge of the second row, like cutting it or something? Thanks guys.

I want to get the Weathertech cargo liner,
But it looks like it won't cover the entire cargo area when the DD is down and the second row seats are down. Is that correct?

Come on guys, think about it. How could you get a mat that fit when the 2nd row seats were down and also with them, up unless it was hinged in the middle.

Here's how:
The old Weathertech mats I had in my Volvo were flexible over the back of the second row seats. When the seats were up they still covered the seat backs.
