Fabrication needs/ideas

I wanted to ask the group about any small fabrication needs. The brackets for the front shackle mounts were not hard to make and I wouldn't mind putting together more items like that if there is a need. I think a bumper fabrication is a bit much right now, but if there is consensus on what is needed by the masses, it shouldn't be hard to put some drawings/designs together and see what can be made.

Any ideas or needs?

How about fabbing some brackets drop the differential. Not to swing it down but tactually lower it in the chassis.

there is not enough clearance the lower the whole diff. you would have to cut out the entire rear crossmember and fab up a new one.

what he's saying is, if the guy can't build a bumper chances of making a whole new crossmember with diff mounts is a bit out there......the processes in making a cross member involve a lot of folding of the steel and box tube much more then a simple press brake will allow, he could maybe R&R some factory ones and ship them out but that's alot of work and it sounds like the guy just wants to make some brackets and easy 90 degree bend sort of stuff.....i could be wrong but he doesn't sound all that comfortable, at least not enough to start making suspension components.....

and personally i think they are kind of a joke on vehicles that aren't naturally asperatied or TBi's...........

what about free floating light brackets for 3rd gens? wouldnt be hard, id just like a cleaner bracket to mount lights on top of the bumper, instead of on the bumper

Well, I've got all the shop tools necessary for almost anything.... lathe, milling machine, iron worker, welding, oxy/acc jig, ect. I have an RX-7 race car that I use a SCCA and NASA events that I've fabricated suspension and other parts for. It just depends on what is needed I guess. Brackets are simple and easy. Other things are possible, I just want to see what is needed. I should be able to design and make most anything that isn't too complicated, I am an geeky engineer after all. :lol: Being able to make them myself as a hobby and not having to use it to put food on the table would make things affordable and beneficial for the group. I've got some vacation days over the holidays I can poke around the shop while the wife is at work.

X2 on the floating light mounts. Also i was thinking some sort of low profile bull bar (nothing like the Westin one) but a bar of some sort to mount some lights on would look good

I would probably be buying one of these if you can get it made. I would like a more secure mounting point. It doesn't look that hard, I just don't have the right tools to make something decent.

That's not what I'm talking about.

Defiant already makes one of those bars for the 3rd Gen.

I just want something that mounts behind the grill and extends from behind the grill just enough to mount the lights on.

Basically the exact same thing that SilverBullet posted, but for the 3rd Gen.

That Defiant bar is around $250. I think that's a little expensive for just mounting lights.

I think what we are looking for is that top bar, not the long bar that sits lower and sticks way out in front of the bumper.

If you did it similar to that way with a bar running parallel to the radiator then you could have a hole predrilled for a third light. All you would have to do is run another another little bar out in front of the bumper.
