Factory alarm question

Sorry for the hodor but my last truck never had keyless haha so bear with me as I learn this new amazing technology.

If I lock my doors with my windows down, I can unlock the door by physically pulling the lock up and the alarm doesn't go off when I open the door. Only keyless system I've ever seen where that doesn't set it off.

Is this normal?

From what I remember mine wouldn't allow you to open the doors with your hand, at least not from the switch. They would click open then closed right away, but I don't remember if the alarm would go off.

99 limited. Can't open using the power locks but I can pull up the lock itself then open the door.

if it is "alarm active" and you manually pull the door lock up and then open the door the alarm should go off. -Once you open the door.

Is there something else beyond hitting the lock button to make sure the alarm is active? I hit the panic button and it works as it should, but just weird it's not going off when I pull up the lock from the outside.

You may have a disconnected wire somewhere...unless your particular year/model doesn't do this by default. Find your owners manual.

You sure there is an alarm there? Sounds like its just a keyless entry system.

That or the alarm just isn't activating.

Honestly man I don't know! Did Toyota offer keyless entry without an alarm? I've never even heard of that, especially when the panic button works.

I thought that's what I said originally. I can pull open the lock from the outside and open the door without a peep. Only way the alarm comes on is hitting the panic button.

Also, separate topic but it seems my passenger rear door doesn't like cooperating with the keyless entry. Anyone else have this problem?

In '99, the factory keyless entry had a panic button but NO ALARM. The ONLY alarm system was a Dealer/port option called the RS3000--there was no true factory alarm system. Strangely, that RS3000 did NOT have a panic button on the remote--it was gray and had only 2 buttons: lock & unlock. So I would say you have the standard factory keyless entry and NO ALARM. Your remote would be FCC ID HQ1512Y and it would be black and have three buttons on one side (lock,unlock, rear window) and the orange panic on the reverse. See this TSB:

Does the door lock and unlock normally with the switch on the driver's door? I have real trouble imagining an issue where the wireless would fail to operate only one door out of five that was otherwise working normally.

Sorry I should have been clearer. Inside switch has the same effect, so I'm guessing it's that motor/actuator. Seems to pull up and down just fine by hand, but maybe there is just enough resistance there to keep it from acting from the switch/keyless
