Factory Applied Paint Protection (adhesive film)

Can anyone who has had the paint protection film treatment applied to their rig comment on its effectiveness? Does it actually prevent hood chips as it is marketed to do? Does the adhesive backing in any way harm the paint if/when the film is removed or replaced?

-Never heard of any OEM applying any front end protective film.
-Yes it will help prevent chips.
-No the adhesive will not hurt the paint.

Here is what will happen though:
There will be a slightly visible line around the area where the vinyl is applied.
Any peeling around the edges can turn uglier than a paint chip.

I bought the 3M and installed it myself. I applied it to the headlights and front bumper/grill surround. It turned out pretty good considering I am not a professional installer nor have I ever worked with such a product. From what I have read it is safe for the paint.

I have it on my hood and edges of doors. Very happy with it so far but the car only has 4500 miles on it. It was installed by the toyota dealer when they received my car. Can see the edge very slightly. Doesn't bother me though.

I have had it for the entire life of my 4r, and on my last few cars/trucks. It works great, and any peeling you can easily cut off with an sharp blade. I highly recommend it, if it is done right.

clearbra, I added it myself (not easy for a good clean job) but prevented at least 1 chip so far.

I hate the added on look of bug guards- it reminds me of the clear plastic covers my grandma had on her furniture in the 70's...and

Since that clearbra stuff costs a little more:

I haven't done it yet, but next time I go on any decent sized trip I'm gonna mask the front of the truck really quick (and part of the hood) and just plastidip a psuedo-bug-guard on there for the trip. When I get back, I'll peel it off.

I had mine installed by Toyota before delivery cost me about $180 and it is 3M No regrets had it on my SHO before did what it suppose to do and want to have it installed by Toyota besides the sales manager gave me an good quote.
