factory cargo area cover

anyone else have the factory cargo cover?

I just bought it from the dealer. I usually keep my briefcase in the back and i want to hide it since i have my macbook pro in it.

I am a bit concerned about how it fits and want to be sure the dealer gave me the correct unit.

There's at least 5" of gap between the rear hatch and the edge of the cover when it's pulled out. You can clearly see at an angle a good portion of the cargo area which defeats the purpose of owning the cover in the first place.

So did i somehow get the cover for a different car? does your cover come snug up the the rear hatch or close to it.

I'd appreciate any feedback you may have.

No, you got the right one....those who bought it are complaining about it at one time or another. Do a search, many threads. I just came up with an Idea on how we can fix this and I will be working on a solution this weekend. Stay tuned....be safe.
 
I'm sure it's just a built-in safety feature so those wonderful caring moms in some cities can put their babies back there while they run into the laundromat and the kiddos will have some fresh air...

Of course, in my business, we call that a convection oven.

It's the right one. I had the same issue and took it back. I think Toyota didn't think this one through.

I now keep a small black blanket in the back to cover anything I put back there. The combination of the tinted windows and the black color tend to make it difficult to see if anything under it or if it's just an old blanket. It's not a great solution, but it keeps prying eyes from seeing anything that might tempt them.
 
One thing to consider is getting the factory cargo net, it clips on to hooks that are right at the edge of the cargo cover when closed, so it kind of forms a box end, so to speak. I know it's just an open mesh and you can see right through it, but I did notice that with it on, it's much harder to peep in with just a casual glance.

In my opinion it obscures the view just enough for most instances. Pretty sure it's not going to help much if someone puts their face right up against your window, or if you were trying to hide a neon yellow box with flashing lights on it, but 15% tint probably wouldn't do much better in that situation either.

If you are really concerned, I guess you can also sew or stick in some kind of solid opaque material along the entire net, then it's pretty much snoop proof.

I thought the same thing about my 2012 TE...had a 97 SR5 with the cargo cover and liked it alot. So....I'm playing with the Rear Seats and pull a lever (what is this?) Ahh...the seat reclines, that is really cool. Lo and behold, no more gap...awesome!

Ohhhh....but you are talking about a gap at the rear hatch...seems to me that mine fits pretty snug. I was more concerned about the gap between the rear seats and the beginning of the cover. Maybe the Cargo Cover is different on the LE.

You are correct...just checked mine by just opening the rear window. Yup, about 5 inch gap.
Will be looking forward to Jtraskell's fix for that.

My original Idea did not work. Using the almighty Antman Thinking cap, (sold on e-bay for 14.95 plus shipping) trying to come up with plan B. I will let you know if successful.

This was concern as well. Mine comes up pretty snug with hatch on my 15' SR5
 
My company requires a cargo cover as anything that is technically left 'in the open' is not replaceable by my company. The policy even states that it has to be 1). in a locked vehicle in the trunk or 2). for vehicles without a trunk it needs to be concealed by a cargo cover.

So..I was thinking of getting the cover but if it fails at what it was designed for then it's a no go for me.
 
At first I was slightly concerned about that gap on the hatch side, but after using it for a while I am no longer concerned at all.

For one, I just put my stuff in the middle of the trunk. It's 100% covered, and there is no way to see my gym bag, work bag, etc. I can even fit my hockey bag in there and not see it from outside the vehicle with the cover over it.

Secondly, even with the gap, it's pretty hard to really see what's in there when the windows are up.

It's not 100% perfect, but it works just fine for what I need.
