Factory Radio problem

My wife's 2000 4runner w/ a factory head unit has started putting on a light show. At night, when you can actually see the illumination of the radio lights, they blink uncontrollably. The radio itself works fine, i.e. sound, volume, changing channels and so on. Just the lights themselves blink a lot. However, sometimes the lights stay on and don't blink. Other times they don't come on at all. Could it be a loose wire or something? Anyone else experience this?

Thought about fixing it myself or at least attempting to, so how easy is it to get to the back of the radio? Does the dash around the radio have to come off first then the radio will slide out or what?

That would be an internal probelm, ie:inside the radio. If you want to check the back wires, check out the diy section to see how to remove it. But, I'm going to guess that its inside the radio. And with that, you'd probably want to just get a new one off eBay.

I have my 2000 stock cd player.. If it comes down to you needing a new one, let me know..

If you can't find it in the diy section, I can help with removal. Let me know.

use this as an excuse to get an aftermarket HU... your first step toward a sound system that doesnt suck!

Well, that's gonna suck if I have to replace the head unit. I like the look of a stock unit, even though I've heard better aftermarket ones. I'm just not that big into stereos. Plus the cavity after taking it out is so large, I have not found an aftermarket radio that filled up the gap nicely. Anybody know what the stock units are selling for now. (sorry no access to ebay at work)
