Factory trailer brake plug location ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've searched for days and can't figure out where this dang plug is. The only thing I found close was after I cut apart the tape near the firewall grommet behind the parking brake, and found these two plugs, neither of which fit my P3 harness.

Did I find the wrong plugs or do I have the wrong harness? I'm going crazy trying to figure out something so simple...

I don't know why you're looking for the Trailer cable in the front of the vehicle; I'm sure there's a good reason for that. But I can give you the wiring schematic diagram; it shows where all related wires are routed from e.g., Stop lights, Hazards, Parking lights, Tail lights, Back-up lights, L & R Directionals....

They trace back to BOTH fuse-boxes (Driver-side fuse-box and Engine-room "Main" fuse, rly-box). It'll give you the color wires to be looking for in the cluster, so that might help. But just the fact that there are multiple sources leading to the Trailer hitch cable, it will be difficult to locate the harness plugs as they are coming from multiple directions:



Perhaps you'll post back to explain the reason you need to find the harness connector then it may be easier to help you with your dilemma! 'Best to you',

You need to get the factory connector for your brake controller, and splice it to your controller.

Did you buy you 4Runner new? If so, it should have come with a pigtail. If not, you can get one on eBay.

That makes perfect sense, but doesn't anyone make a Brake controller module with an 'integrated' male pin harness that plugs directly into the factory trailer socket and then provides a female OEM socket to plug the 'Trailer harness' right into?

I'm not trying to be a smart-@$$ cuz I really don't know, but it just seems the manufacturers should understand that you'd possibly 'VOID' your warranty if you make changes to the stock wiring in the dash... just a thought, and thanks for your intelligent POV!

The connector to plug your P3 wiring harness is left of the parking brake and it is not wrapped in electrical tape. You need to reach left of the parking brake and its behind the plastic trim piece just go fishing blind there.

I swear I've gone fishing behind that plastic panel, but it's got to be there. I bought the truck new. I've got the adapter, now I just need to find the dang plug.

I had the same issue as you. My connector was there but was completely wrapped in black electrical tape and taped to a main branch/harness.I had to remove the door sill trim, kicker panel as well just to get enough space for my hands to search for it and start digging into the nicely wrapped harness from Toyota. Literally took me an hour when it should have been a 2 minute find it and plug it in job.

I'm going crazy with this, I've got the door sill pulled, the side panel off and have been laying on my back under the drivers seat for 20min trying to find this plug. Why can't I find this damn thing?!

Ok, no one panic. I found it. I'm too frustrated to celebrate quite yet that it took me this long to find the dang thing. It was about 10" higher and behind the harness than I was looking. No need to remove the side panel at all, it was actually about level with or a little higher than the emergency ratchet bracket. WAY higher than all youtube videos and instructions I found. :shrug:
