Factory Tundra LED Fog Lights in 5th Gen 4Runner

I know the 2019 4Runners will have an option for LED fog lights from the factory. I am impatient and also wondered if the 2018 Tundra LED fog lights would fit in the 5th generation 4Runner. The answer is YES. They are a direct fit and plug right in for my 2017 Off Road.

I prefer using factory parts as often as possible since I'm not doing any heavy duty offroading. I like the look of factory and the fact there is typically minimal (if any) modification needed.

I purchased the parts from an online Toyota parts dealer. I shopped around a bit to find good pricing and the cheapest shipping.

Part numbers:
Left assembly 81220-48051
Right assembly 81210-48051

Installation was extremely easy and the results are exactly what I wanted. Now I'll have to upgrade my headlights so the lighting is better and the color temperatures are similar.

I like room to work so I removed the front wheel and tire before starting each side. You could probably get away without doing this at all on the driver's side. There is plenty of room to remove the two phillips screws holding the assembly in place and get to the connector as well.

The passenger side is a little more involved. It has a cover over the fog light assembly that needs to be removed and it's a pain going in from the bottom. I chose to remove the wheel, remove the screws and plugs holding the front half of the fender liner, and fold the liner back to give me room to work. Again, this is very simple work.

I will update with night pics soon. Unfortunately, I did not take pre-install pics for comparison but I think we all know what the halogen fog light beam pattern looks like by now.

Nice work, but why didn't you just pull the bumper. It comes off easily enough?

I've pulled the bumper before and there's a lot less work to roll the one fender liner back half way. There's about 1/4 of the fastners required to come out and I don't have to worry about breaking the plastic clips or the tabs around the bumper.

I guess to each is own. I would have turned the wheel and partially pulled the liner... and if that wasn't enough, pulled the bumper. Even with a pneumatic impactpor, pulling wheels and re-torquing them is a pain in the ass.

Nice work. But if I had to guess they’re gonna be putting Rigid Industries LED fogs in just like on the Tacoma Pro and the 19 Tundra Pro

Wow thanks - that is exactly what I have been wondering about (what other Toyota LED fog lamp part was simply interchangeable / plug and play).

Would you mind posting the link to what online source you used, Ebay? There's a mish mash of listings under those part #'s. I could go to my local dealer sure but anything like this is cheaper for me out of the US, including import fees and exchange.

Greatly appreciated...

P.S. I notice there is an adjustment wheel on them in some pics I've seen on Ebay, did you find that they were bang on out of the box or ?

You may want to Google "Toyota Parts Dealer near XXX." Cool Springs sold the assemblies cheaper than my local dealer and with shipping it was still a few bucks under. Only problem is I had to wait a few days for delivery.

Also, the phillips screws that come out of your old assembly will mount the new so need to purchase more.

I'll post some night pics soon. I'm in college on nights and weekends so busy for me. As for the adjustment, I did need to adjust the beams up/down to be level with each other. Do a form search or youtube search for aiming lights. It's simple.

Slick mod for using oem parts! I wonder if they’ll work on my ladies late limited now? I just installed oedro led’s from amazon, they are the long skinny pole type with more led’s than other bulbs i have used in the past and I gotta admit they were the golden ticket but this mod being oem is priceless so great work!

I just replaced the stock bulbs with a a pair of Phillips X-tremeVision LED bulbs. Huge difference over the stock halogen bulbs and no modding needed. They are good enough that I wouldn't change anything unless I was going to switch to Rigid or Baja Design LED assemblies.

From the videos I watched online they have a better light pattern and better lumen output. If I hadn't already bought my Morimoto LED fog lights I may have bought these, however they're very similar to these stock assemblies.

This is what I use too with very good results. I like how they are bright white light with a wide pattern. OEM Tundra mod would have been my move if I didn't know about the Philips LEDs.

Why didn't you go with the factory LED DRL/projector fog lights for the 4Runner?
I had them installed at the port on my '18 TRDORP.
The LED DRL's are operated by a switch on the dash, and the fogs are still operated by the stalk.

These are purely an "upgrade" just for the sake of having LEDs. 1) I am upgrading the headlights to 5500K and these pair well. 2) These are not a performance offroad light. They are a nice and easy upgrade if you're looking for white light and don't want/need the super bright and wide beam pattern of aftermarket lights. I'm not knocking the other applications. This works for how I currently use my vehicle.
