Amen to that. I live in central Kentucky. I have mine wrapped in 15% then 50% on my windshield. Been that way 3 years and haven’t had any issues

This is not going to be appreciated by the OP or anyone who tints their windows dark. But on this point I don't care.
I assume that people who tint their windows dark have something to hide. It's like wearing your dark glasses (shades) inside, in a room full of people. For some people wearing shades inside is the height of arrogance. Please, take off those shades and look us in the eye.
Window tint on the front side windows or windshield is unsafe for pedestrians and cops.
People walking need to be able to see the driver and know if he/she sees them. You can't see if the driver is paying attention if their windows are tinted so dark that you can't see the driver.
Cops approaching a car and driver need to be able to see them. Window tints have always been a safety hazard and with so many ambushes of cops happening lately it's not safe for the cop if he can't see you. And we want our law enforcement people to be safe, feel comfortable approaching people in a car and be able to do their job of protecting public safety.
Take off those tints. If you haven't tinted your windows, please don't.

Ehh. No. I'm not going to ambush a cop, I won't change my preferences based on possible criminality of others. If they're that jumpy they should probably find another line of work.
Very few pedestrians where I live so that's a non issue.
I have plenty to hide, namely firearms and other valuables that I don't want people to see by peering in my windows. Also blocks heat, and if I'm camping out of the 4Runner it provides privacy.
Or you can roll down your windows for the police.
In my case I am hiding....from the sun! It is often over 100 degrees for 30+ days in the summer. Tint makes a huge difference. It is the first mod I do on any car I buy.
As far as the Cops go, I get pulled over, all windows go down, sunroof gets opened (in the sports car any ways), both hands go on the steering wheel, the weapon gets declared, and I await further instructions, no exceptions, period! I get let go more often then getting a ticket, and they almost always state their appreciation for my process.

Thanks for the positive reply. I always assumed black tint made the car warmer.
As for getting pulled over by the cops, I do all the same things. But I look like an engineer and we're a fairly conservative lot. Cops profile us as people who are too rational to do anything stupid, like make a cop uneasy, much less shoot anybody. Here in California you can't carry a weapon in a car unless it's locked up or in the trunk. In fact, you can't carry a weapon.

Just had my eye doctor write a script for the inspection station...weird.

You are still limited to the amount of sunshading (tint) and only you are valid to now drive the car with the tint. If someone else is driving your car and not on the registration they are subject to a window tint violation...... just giving you a heads up.

What he said above. And if this is really about your eyes and your doctor wrote a prescription saying you need the tinting, it should be printed on your drivers license as well. So if you need shading to see then the car you drive must have tinting. If you drive a car without it, it would be like me driving without my glasses on. You and I would get a ticket in either case. And it's noted on my driver's license that I need glasses to see (pass the DMV eye exam). BTW, my father is 90+ and still driving. If someday he can't pass the eye exam I want the DMV to revoke his license. Him and anyone else who can't see. Sorry Dad.

OC has been issuing CCW for more than 3 years now with a fairly lenient just cause statement.
The challenge with tinting that complies with laws in one state doesn't mean it complies with laws in other states. If you travel out of state, you risk getting pulled over.
My brother in law recently bought a car out of state and was driving it home from the dealership. It had tinted side windows. He crossed state lines and got pulled over solely for the tinted windows.
He did avoid the ticket by explaining he just bought it and would remove the tinting when he got home.
As cool as tinting is (for looks and heat reduction), it just doesn't seem worth the risk of being pulled over -- unless you're just going to only drive in a state where it's legal.

True. The commonwealth of VA's language states if you are travelling inside of the commonwealth on a state road you have to abide by the laws here. The state doesn't care where you and your car may be from.
If you're leaving valuables and firearms out in the open where people may see them, then that is just not smart. I'm sure your winsldshield isn't tinted.

A lot of times I'll run to walmart to grab targets or something on my way to the property where I shoot. I'll have the guns in their cases but they're still just piled on the back seat, kind of hard to do much else when you're taking 10+ firearms out.

i carry a black sheet for exactly this kind of thing, with just the factory tint it's really hard to tell you have something under the black sheet unless you're really looking (i.e. a passerby doesn't notice anything).
I never leave firearms in my vehicle, but I have on-street parking in what was an "emerging" part of town that had a car break in problem and mine has never been messed with even though I carry stuff in the back under a black sheet
