Failed Cali smog the other day. A couple years ago, just before my last smog, my oem cat was stolen. My "shady" mechanic installed a smaller cat on the 4runner and had it smogged. The smog shop I went to last week explained that the cat that was installed was probably for a 4cylinder truck. He also said that now days they are required to enter the part # of the cat and the executive number of the cat while smogging the vehicle. Obviously the numbers stamped on the cat wouldnt pass the smog process but the emissions numbers didnt pass. The shop gave a list of after market cats that are acceptable in California. My question is, does anyone have any good feed back from using aftermarket CARB cats from the past 2 years? No luck searching CL or Ebay for used OEM cats. New OEM is out of the question.
