fan clutch keeps kicking in......... again

currently 24k miles on the clock, time to have an oil change soon, but also realize that the fan clutch keeps kicking in after 10 mins of city driving @ 95F day. anyone experienced that? i've rinsed through my radiator 2 months ago due to the mud stuck within the fin (aftermath of mud play), thought it should fix the cooling problem, but seems something is up, or is that normal?
once the fan clutch kicks in, my 4R seems like someone robbing 100hp off it, so powerless except a big fan noise....

Dont know what causes it but if I have the a/c on high I get that LOUD ASS wooooosh as I drive off and some times it take a little while to finally kck off. The wierd thing is it doesnt always happen with the a/c on high, strange.

if i keep city driving, that loud a$$ woooooosh is never going away and i need to floor the SUV to make it move.... if i get on freeway, 15 mins or so later, when it's cool enough, it kicks off itself.

Did you rinse the actual rad or just the A/C condensor out in front of the rad? Do you see the temp indicator gauge moving down on the freeway?

i rinse through the whole radiator, removed the top plastic cover and stuck a hose in, i'm pretty sure the radiator is all cleaned out. my temp gauge stays in the middle, never goes any hotter. only thing is the fan clutch keeps kicking in while city driving and that once that kicks in, the rig lacks of power a lot and hard to rev pass 3.5k rpm......

Spend a second thinking about what the fan is designed to do...

The radiator needs air flow to do the heat exchange. At city speeds you have reduced air flow...temperature rises...fan activates to increase air flow to promote heat exchange from the radiator. At highway/interstate speeds, you naturally have increased air flow, reducing the need for the fan to assist. IOW, it's working as designed.

Now, if you're really noticing that muchs power drain, you might want to have your fan looked at. It's a necessity that they're going to cycle on and off, even on the interstate, especially in high ambients...never notice mine except by sound inside my neighborhood where there's no other road noise to mask it.

What your describing is completely normal. 95 is very hot, mine does the same thing especially when its as hot as you mention and its local driving.

It has been so hot the fan has kicked in while going 70 sometimes.

yea the only thing which really annoying me is the power loss when fan kicks in. i don't recall it happens as often as when it was new....

The power loss is a combo of high outside temps and the fan.

There is a noticeable difference in power when it is 60 out and when it is 100 out regardless of whether the fan is on or not.
