Most of my money goes to my 97 build. So I found a rough small bumper for my 2000 that I need to get small brackets for. I will paint the bumpers black and call it good. I am the same age as you, and have grown to hate chrome.

I've got one that's got the corners trimmed for a little more clearance... That's about it

I think the OP is more concerned about the fact that in stock form, it makes the T4R look like Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue.

Mother nature modified my bumper when I drove up a huge snow pile and the driver side valence ripped off. I have plans to install a normal non-fat lip bumper from an earlier 4runner. You can buy prime red bumpers on the internet and paint it whatever color you want. Based on the research I've done if you're installing an non-fat lip on a 4runner that had the factory fat-lip then it will bolt right on. However, if it's the other way around then you have to modify something (not sure what).

IMO I think the fat lip looks better than the "slammed head on into a brick wall" flat bumper

I have seen quite a few people trim it up to make it look a little meaner, similar to Hoots Magoon's post.

I painted my grill and air dam on my front bumper black. Made it look a little more sporty. I like the look of the trimmed front bumper that Hoots Magoon posted but thinking it wouldn't look as good on a painted front bumper. looks good on the black bumper though

I don't understand the hate for the fatlip bumper either. I prefer it over the earlier ones, it's got a more modern look in my opinion. That said I plan to replace mine with a plate bumper in the near future.

I hate the fatlip on a stock rig. Once lifted up it seems to fit better. But the fat lip on a sagged out stocker just dont even look like its made for the 4runner.

That's the only other angle I have at the moment.
It's the fiancee's daily driver and her favorite color is purple, so there's quite a bit of it. The Tundra calipers, valve covers, and throttle body are powder coated purple. The front plate and projector shrouds are spray painted. I told her I was going to do whatever mods I wanted but I would make it suit her personality and taste.

That's another reason why I went with my CBI, to keep the fat lip look instead of the frying pan to the face look that the 4xinnovations give.
The fat lip looks better on lifted rigs, but unless you don't plan on lifting then I'd use the money you were going to pour into another stock bumper and put it into your lift budget.

I would like a little more info. Did you cut the bottom part of the bumper off or did you use a different bumper? And did you make that skid plate or did you buy it somewhere? I'm liking how that looks.
