Faulty hood latch causing battery drain.

So after 6 months and two jump starts and one new battery, the local stealership finally diagnosed the problem (Battery would drain (twice only) due to faulty hood latch causing alarm to go off for extended period (when I am enjoying a nice meal etc). Last time I brought it in they fobbed me off with the old "faulty battery cell" excuse. Just an FYI for anybody else with this issue.

I'm assuming you have an aftermarket alarm. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure there is no switch at the hood latch for the factory alarm.

Yup, just checked. There are no factory alarm provisions for the hood latch.

ah the plot thickens....why would they then give me a loaner and replace a part (or did they) that wasn't part of the route cause.....fecking stealership.

There sure is. Limited and Trail have it installed from factory, SR5 does not.

Part of the Toyota OEM remote start kit is that hood latch switch, to be installed on SR5s that are lacking it. It is a small reed switch that fits into the latch.

There sure is. Limited and Trail have it installed from factory, SR5 does not.

It appears we are discussing 2 different things here, gentlemen. The hood switch is to prevent the vehicle from remote starting if the hood is open. It may be tied into the factory alarm system as well.

My limited does not have a remote starter. Only the factory alarm. I can open and close my hood with the alarm armed.

Interesting. I had assumed that the hood switch would be a trigger for the alarm, but I just went outside and can arm the system with the hood open, or open the hood with it armed.

Strange that they would bother with a switch when its only apparent function is as part of an accessory, which includes said switch. More strange that the cause of a randomly activating alarm is blamed on a switch that doesn't trigger the alarm.

Interesting. My factory alarm in my 2010 4runner Trail will go off if the hood is opened and the alarm is armed. I just tested it. :lock1: aint nobody getting my V6!
